When we think of beaches that have it all, Calahonda immediately comes to mind. It's not just a place to sunbathe; it's a complete destination that invites us to disconnect, enjoy with family, and immerse ourselves in the authentic Mediterranean essence.

This Malaga gem, often awarded the prestigious Blue Flag, offers us an ideal combination of natural beauty and first-class services. With its fine golden sand and waters that invite swimming and fun, Playa de Calahonda stretches for several kilometers, offering different atmospheres: from busier, livelier areas, perfect for socializing, to more intimate coves where you can find a haven of peace. How to Get to Playa de Calahonda

Getting to Playa de Calahonda is really easy, as it has excellent connections that make it very accessible from any point on the Costa del Sol and beyond. We always recommend planning the journey a little to make the most of the day.

By Car

The most common and comfortable way to get there is by car. Playa de Calahonda is perfectly connected via the A-7 motorway (formerly the N-340), which runs parallel to the coast. If we're coming from Malaga city or the airport, the journey takes about 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. From Marbella, the trip is even shorter, about 15-20 minutes. Once we take the exit towards Calahonda, the beach is just a few minutes away. Regarding parking, we can find several public parking areas, both on the street itself (especially in the nearby urbanizations) and in some small designated car parks. During the high season, like in mid-August, it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot first thing in the morning, so we advise arriving early or considering alternative transport options.

By Bus

For those who prefer not to drive or want to enjoy a worry-free day, the bus is an excellent option. The M-220 line operated by Portillo (part of the Malaga Metropolitan Transport Consortium) connects Fuengirola and Marbella, making numerous stops in Calahonda. This line allows us to get off very close to the beach, at strategic points where we can easily access the chiringuitos and swimming areas. It's a comfortable and economical way to get there, especially if we're coming from nearby towns like Fuengirola, La Cala de Mijas, or Marbella.

Other Means

Although less common, we can also consider taxis or VTC services, which will drop us off directly at our desired point on the beach. For the more adventurous, and if we're staying nearby, cycling is a fantastic option, especially if we take advantage of the Mijas Coastal Path, which offers spectacular stretches with sea views and allows us to access different coves of Playa de Calahonda in an active and healthy way.

The Sand and Water

When we step onto Playa de Calahonda, the first thing that captivates us is its sand. It's a fine, golden sand, very pleasant to the touch, that generously stretches for over 4 kilometers. This characteristic makes it the perfect place to walk barefoot, build sandcastles with the little ones, or simply relax in the sun. Unlike other pebble beaches or those with coarser sand, the feeling here is one of comfort and softness, which is greatly appreciated during long beach days.

But if the sand is a pleasure, the water at Playa de Calahonda is a true delight. Its waters are generally calm and crystal clear, with a turquoise blue hue that irresistibly invites a swim. The water quality is excellent, a key factor that contributes to this beach frequently receiving the Blue Flag, a distinction that certifies not only the cleanliness of the water but also the quality of its services and environmental management. The entry into the sea is usually gentle and gradual, without significant drops or strong currents, making it very safe for children and the elderly. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is very pleasant, allowing us to enjoy long refreshing swims and water activities without feeling cold. It's a pleasure to dive into these waters and feel the sea breeze while the sun caresses our skin.

• Parking: As we've already mentioned, although not always easy in high season, there are parking areas available, both on the beach itself and in the adjacent urbanizations, which makes access easier for us.
