How to Get to Playa de Cabria

Getting to Playa de Cabria is relatively straightforward, which adds to its appeal, especially if we're traveling with family or with the intention of carrying little luggage. We always recommend planning the route, although the signage in Almuñécar is quite clear once we approach the coast. The beach is located east of Almuñécar's center, following the N-340 towards Málaga, just before reaching Peñón del Santo if coming from the east, or after passing the more central beaches if coming from the west.

By Car

For us, the car is the most comfortable option to get to Playa de Cabria. From the center of Almuñécar, the journey is short, just about 5-10 minutes. We need to take the coastal road and follow the signs. The good thing is that the beach has parking areas that, although not huge, usually have space, especially outside of peak summer hours. In high season, it's advisable to arrive early to secure a good spot. The access road is paved and in good condition, which makes the journey easy.

Public Transport

Although Almuñécar has a network of urban buses, direct access to Playa de Cabria via public transport can be somewhat more limited than to other more central beaches. We could take a bus that runs along the coast and get off at the nearest stop, then walk a short stretch. However, for us, the flexibility offered by the car is unbeatable in this case. If we don't have our own vehicle, a taxi from the center of Almuñécar would be a quick and economical option, especially if there are several of us. The distance is minimal, so the cost wouldn't be excessive.

On Foot or by Bicycle

For the more active, getting to Playa de Cabria on foot or by bicycle from the center of Almuñécar is a viable option, and it also allows us to enjoy the promenade and the views. The path is pleasant and relatively flat for most of its route. It's an excellent way to start the day, getting a little exercise before relaxing on the sand. However, we must consider that, under the summer sun, the walk can be a bit demanding, so it's important to bring water and sunscreen.

The sand at Playa de Cabria is of a mixed type, predominantly dark, with a mix of coarse sand and small pebbles or gravel. For us, this characteristic gives it a rustic, natural charm. When walking on it, we notice a different texture, and although it may not be as soft as fine sand, it's very comfortable for spreading out a towel and doesn't stick to the skin as much as others. The pebbles are small and rounded, so they aren't bothersome to walk on barefoot, although some may prefer to use water shoes for greater comfort, especially when going into the water. This ground composition also helps keep the water clearer, as less sediment is stirred up with movement.

Water Quality

One of the great attractions of Playa de Cabria is its waters. For us, they are simply spectacular. We're talking about crystal-clear waters, with a transparency that allows us to easily see the seabed. This is due, in part, to the nature of its ground and the protection offered by the small rock formations that flank it, creating a kind of sheltered cove.
