Introduction
Welcome to a true hidden treasure in the Noia estuary, A Coruña: Playa de Boa Pequena. This idyllic spot is much more than a simple stretch of sand; it's a sanctuary of peace where time seems to stand still. We, as lovers of the Galician coast, always seek out those special places that allow us to reconnect with nature and forget the daily hustle and bustle, and Boa Pequena more than fulfills this promise. Its name, which means 'little good' in Galician, already gives us a hint of the gem we are about to discover.
Strategically located within the estuary, this beach offers us calm, crystal-clear waters, protected from the Atlantic currents. It's a place where the sea breeze gently caresses us and the sound of the waves invites meditation. If what we seek is to escape stress, enjoy a sunny day with the family, or simply lose ourselves in the beauty of a pristine landscape, Playa de Boa Pequena in Noia is, without a doubt, a perfect choice. We feel fortunate to be able to share with you all the charms of this wonderful destination.
How to Get to Playa de Boa Pequena
Getting to Playa de Boa Pequena is part of the adventure and charm of this spot. We always recommend planning the route, although its location is not complicated. If you're coming from Santiago de Compostela, the drive takes approximately 40-50 minutes, following the AG-56 highway and then the AC-543 to Noia. Once in the municipality of Noia, you should head towards the coastal area of the estuary, following the signs that will lead you to the small coves. Playa de Boa Pequena is located in a rather natural setting, so the signage may be discreet.
Access and Parking
Access to the beach is usually via small paths or trails. Don't expect major access infrastructure, as this is part of its 'wild' and natural character. As for parking, you'll find areas to park your car nearby, often informally on the roadside or in small nearby clearings. We always advise arriving early, especially in high season, to secure a good spot. From the car, we'll likely have to walk a few minutes along a wooded path, which already prepares us for the immersion in nature that awaits. It's important to remember that we are in a natural environment, so we must respect the local flora and fauna and take with us any waste we generate.
The Sand and the Water
One of the most notable features of Playa de Boa Pequena is, without a doubt, its sand and the quality of its waters. We were captivated from the first moment. The sand here is of a fine grain and a soft golden tone that invites you to walk barefoot and relax on it. It's clean sand, pleasant to the touch, perfect for building sandcastles with the kids or simply for laying out our towel and enjoying the Galician sun. Its texture is uniform, without large stones or pebbles that could cause discomfort, making it a very comfortable place to spend the day.
The Waters of the Estuary
The waters of Playa de Boa Pequena are one of its greatest attractions. Being inside the Noia estuary, they are sheltered from the strong currents and waves of the Atlantic Ocean. This translates into an incredibly calm sea, often with a slightly warmer temperature than open-sea beaches. Its transparency is remarkable, allowing us to see the seabed and enjoy a safe and pleasant swim. The water's hue varies between emerald greens and turquoise blues, creating a beautiful contrast with the gold of the sand and the green of the surrounding vegetation. It's an ideal place for calm swimming, for the little ones to splash safely, or for practicing tranquil water sports like paddle surfing or kayaking on windless days, provided we bring our own equipment.
Services and Facilities
As we've already mentioned, Playa de Boa Pequena is a place that stands out for its natural character and tranquil atmosphere. This means that, unlike other more urbanized beaches, services and facilities are limited, which, for us, is part of its charm. If we're looking for a beach with chiringuitos, showers, and lifeguards right on the sand, this might not be the option. However, if we value authenticity and connection with the environment, we'll feel right at home.
Available (and Absent) Services
The most direct service you'll find, although often informally, is Parking in the vicinity. It's a relief to be able to leave the car relatively close so we don't have to carry all our beach gear for too long. Beyond this, don't expect showers, public toilets, umbrella or sunbed rentals, or food and beverage services directly on the sand. We always advise bringing everything you need: water, food, sunscreen, and, of course, a bag to collect all our waste and leave the place as spotless as we found it. The absence of these facilities helps maintain the pristine atmosphere and the feeling of being in an almost virgin place. For any needs beyond the basics, the nearby municipality of Noia offers a complete range of services a short drive away.
