How to Get to Playa de Binimel·là

Getting to Playa de Binimel·là is part of the adventure and offers us the opportunity to contemplate the changing rural landscapes of Menorca. From Es Mercadal, the route is relatively straightforward and well-signposted. We usually take the road heading north, towards Fornells, and then turn off towards the sign for Binimel·là and the northern beaches.

The road, although narrow in some sections, leads us to a designated parking area, usually paid during the high season, which helps control capacity and preserve the environment. From the parking lot, a short and pleasant walk of a few minutes awaits us. This brief journey already prepares us for the wonder that awaits, with views of the fields and, finally, the first glimpse of the sea.

It's important to consider that, being a beach in a natural setting, access is not adapted for people with reduced mobility, and the path from the parking lot to the sand may have some irregularities. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes for the journey.

The Sand and Water

When we set foot on Playa de Binimel·là, the first thing we notice is its peculiar sand. It's not the fine white sand found in other coves in southern Menorca, but a mixed sand with a slightly coarser grain and, above all, a characteristic color ranging from ochre to reddish. These hues are due to the geological composition of the area, rich in ferrous clays, and give it a unique charm and a warm, enveloping atmosphere.

The waters of Binimel·là are simply spectacular. Their transparency is astonishing, allowing us to see the seabed with total clarity. The color, an intense turquoise blue at the shore that deepens as we go further in, is an irresistible invitation for a swim. Sheltered by small headlands, its waters are usually calm and shallow near the shore, making it very pleasant for bathing and perfect for enjoying without worries. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is delicious and refreshing.

Services and Facilities

Playa de Binimel·là is distinguished by its natural character, and therefore, its services are limited, which is part of its appeal for those seeking authenticity. Let's not expect to find the infrastructure of more urbanized beaches, and that's precisely what we like about it.

The main services we can find are:

• Parking: As mentioned, there is a designated parking area near the beach, often paid during the high season. It's essential for accessing the cove.
• Lifeguard Service: During the summer months (usually from June to September), the beach has a lifeguard service to ensure the safety of bathers. It's always a plus for peace of mind, especially if we're with children.
• Chiringuitos: There are no 'chiringuitos' directly on the sand, but we find 'Chiringuito Es Bruc' a short distance away, at the entrance to the beach. It's an ideal spot for a cool drink, enjoying some tapas, or even having a meal, with views of the natural surroundings. It's a reference point to recharge after a good time in the sun and sea.

What we won't find are showers, public toilets on the sand, umbrella or sunbed rentals, or specific sports or children's areas. The philosophy of Binimel·là is that of a beach where nature is the protagonist, and we, as visitors, must adapt to it and respect its environment. We advise bringing everything needed for the day: water, food, an umbrella, and sunscreen.

Best Time to Visit

We, as beach experts, always recommend the best time to visit each place, and in the case of Playa de Binimel·là, there are moments that seem ideal to us for enjoying it in its full splendor without crowds.

• Spring (May-June): For us, these months are perfect. Temperatures are pleasant, the water is already warm enough for swimming, and the influx of tourists is considerably lower than in mid-summer. The vegetation is at its peak and the landscape is lush. It's a fantastic time to combine beach with hiking.
• Late Summer – Early Autumn (September-October): After the bustle of August, Menorca regains a special calm. The sea is still warm, the days are sunny but not excessively hot, and the beaches, including Binimel·là, are much quieter. It's ideal for those seeking a relaxed and contemplative atmosphere.

We would avoid, if possible, the month of August. Although the beach is beautiful, the influx of visitors is at its maximum, and the parking lot can fill up quickly, taking away a bit of that feeling of peace and isolation that we so appreciate in Binimel·là. However, if we only have August, getting up early is the key to finding a spot and enjoying the first hours of the morning with greater serenity.
