How to Get to Playa de Barrañán

If we're coming from A Coruña, the most common route is to take the AG-55 highway towards Carballo and then turn off towards Arteixo. Once in Arteixo, the signs to the beach are clear, taking us along local roads that wind through small rural villages and green landscapes.

We always recommend the car as the most comfortable option to get to Barrañán, as public transport is limited and doesn't go directly to the shore. There is a large, generally unpaved, parking area right behind the dunes, which facilitates access to the beach. Although it can fill up in the summer months, the size of the parking lot is usually sufficient for all visitors. It's important to drive carefully on the last stretches, as the roads can be narrow and winding.

If you're cycling enthusiasts, it's also possible to get there by pedaling from Arteixo or nearby towns, enjoying a pleasant ride through nature. However, keep in mind that the final access to the beach is a bit steep, but the views that await you are well worth the effort. The Sand and Water

The sand at Playa de Barrañán is simply spectacular. It's fine, golden sand, incredibly soft to the touch, stretching for almost a kilometer. It's the kind of sand that invites you to take off your shoes and feel every grain under your feet as you walk along the shore or simply lie down to sunbathe. The width of the sandy area is notable, even at high tide, which avoids a feeling of overcrowding and allows you to enjoy a generous personal space.

As for the water, we're on the Galician Atlantic, which means it's fresh and invigorating. The waters of Barrañán are crystal clear, with an intense blue-green color that changes with the daylight and the state of the sky. The water quality is excellent, allowing us to enjoy a refreshing and safe swim. However, due to its orientation and the force of the ocean, the waves are often moderate or strong, making it a paradise for surfers, but may require caution for less experienced swimmers, especially on rough sea days.

We are always amazed by the purity and energy of this place. The combination of fine sand with vibrant water creates a unique atmosphere. It's a place where you can feel in harmony with the elements, where the sound of the waves becomes the perfect soundtrack for your day. Remember that we are on an oceanic beach, so it's important to respect the lifeguards' instructions and the flags indicating the state of the sea. The beauty of Barrañán lies precisely in its untamed and natural character.

Services and Facilities

Although Playa de Barrañán is characterized by its natural and minimally developed atmosphere, it doesn't lack the essential services to make our visit comfortable and safe. We like that it maintains that balance between the wild and the functional. The most notable service, and for us essential on a beach with these characteristics, is Lifeguarding, which operates during the summer season to ensure the safety of swimmers and surfers. Their presence gives us great peace of mind, especially with the characteristic waves of the area.

We also have a large Parking area, as already mentioned, located right behind the dunes. It's a dirt space that, although not paved, serves its purpose perfectly and makes accessing the beach easy without having to worry about finding a spot. After a refreshing swim or a surf session, the Showers located near the parking area are a relief to wash off the salt and sand before heading home or continuing with our activities. They are simple, but very practical.

During the summer months, it's common to find a Chiringuito or kiosk in the vicinity of the beach. These temporary establishments offer us the chance to have a cool drink, a coffee, or even a snack if
