Playa de Bañugues presents itself as a semi-circular cove of fine golden sand, bathed by the often calm waters of the Cantabrian Sea. It is sheltered by imposing green cliffs, typical of the Asturian landscape, which not only give it unparalleled scenic beauty but also act as a natural barrier against the wind, creating an ideal microclimate for enjoyment. How to get to Playa de Bañugues

Getting to Playa de Bañugues is relatively straightforward, although its somewhat discreet location allows it to retain that charm of a 'discovered' place. If coming from Oviedo or Gijon, the most direct route is usually via the A-66 motorway towards Aviles, then taking the exit towards Luanco and Cabo Peñas via the AS-238 and AS-118. Bañugues is a small coastal town located a few kilometers north of Luanco, the capital of the Gozon municipality. Once we enter the village, the signs to the beach are clear and will guide us without problems to our destination.

Access and Parking

Access to the beach itself is comfortable, making it suitable for all types of visitors. It has a nearby parking area, which is a great advantage, especially during the summer months when it's busier. Although it's not a huge car park, there is usually enough space for vehicles, saving us the worry of looking for a spot nearby. From the car park, a short walk takes us directly to the sand, without significant slopes or difficulties, making it easy to arrive with children or beach gear. We always recommend arriving early if we want to secure a good spot, both in the car park and on the sand, especially on the sunniest days of July and August, when the Asturian beaches come alive.

The sand and the water

Playa de Bañugues is famous for its sand. We can confirm it is of exceptional quality: fine and golden, with a soft texture that invites walking barefoot and building sandcastles. It's the kind of sand that gently sticks to the skin and, when dry, comes off easily, leaving a pleasant feeling. Its length, approximately 400 meters, offers enough space for everyone to find their own spot, even on the busiest days. The tide, as is usual in the Cantabrian Sea, significantly marks the landscape, revealing a larger expanse of sand and some rocky pools at low tide that are a delight for the youngest explorers.

The Waters of the Cantabrian Sea

The waters of Bañugues, like those of most Asturian beaches, are cool, crystal clear, and of excellent quality. They usually have moderate waves, making them safe for swimming, especially closer to the shore. The cliffs flanking it help protect it from stronger currents, creating a relatively calm bathing area. We have enjoyed many dips in these waters and are always surprised by their cleanliness and the invigorating feeling they produce. It's the perfect place to cool off, swim peacefully, or simply float while admiring the natural surroundings. The water's clarity invites you to observe the seabed, although it is not a beach particularly known for snorkeling due to the predominance of sand.

Services and facilities

Despite its tranquil and natural atmosphere, Playa de Bañugues does not lack the essential services that make a stay more comfortable and pleasant. We highly value that a beach with these characteristics offers what's necessary without losing its essence. During the high season, the beach has a lifeguard team that watches over the safety of bathers, providing us with additional peace of mind, especially if we go with children. Their presence is a clear indication of the commitment to safety on the beaches of Gozon.

Amenities at the beach

For the comfort of visitors, the beach has showers where we can rinse off the sand and salt before heading home, a detail that is always appreciated. Furthermore, in the summer months, there is usually a chiringuito right on the beach or very close by, where we can enjoy a refreshing drink, an ice cream, or even some snacks. This service adds a meeting point and the possibility of extending the beach day without having to leave the sand. It's a perfect place to have a drink while contemplating the sea, an activity we always greatly enjoy. The atmosphere at the chiringuito is usually relaxed and family-friendly, in tune with the spirit of the beach.
