How to Get to Playa de Ballota

Getting to Playa de Ballota is part of the adventure and, for us, is one of the reasons why its charm remains so intact. Do not expect a main road that leaves you at the edge of the sand; here, access is more of a reward for explorers. We always recommend planning the route in advance, as the signage can be a bit scarce, which, paradoxically, helps maintain its virgin essence and avoid overcrowding.

From Cudillero, the journey by car will take us along secondary roads, winding and with spectacular views that already prepare us for what awaits. It is a path that, although narrow in some sections, gifts us with rural scenes and cliffs that plunge into the sea. The closest reference point for most navigators is the small village of Ballota or an improvised parking area near the cliff. Once there, you will find a space, often unpaved, to leave your vehicle. Do not expect an organized or signposted parking lot; it is more of an area where visitors usually park carefully, respecting the environment and the passage of other vehicles.

From this parking point, access to the beach is via a trail. It is a path that, while not excessively long, does present some difficulty. We would describe it as a dirt and stone path, with a considerable slope, that descends down the cliff to the shore. It is essential to wear appropriate footwear; we always opt for trekking shoes or sports shoes with good grip, and avoid flip-flops, which could make us slip. The descent requires caution, but each step brings us closer to the reward: the sight of the beach opening before us, with the Piedra la Ballota islet dominating the horizon. It is an effort that, we assure you, is well worth it, and that contributes to making Playa de Ballota feel like a personal discovery every time we visit.
