Playa de Arnao greets us with its calm waters and fine golden sand, protected from the strong waves of the Cantabrian Sea thanks to its privileged location within the estuary. How to Get to Playa de Arnao

Getting to Playa de Arnao is relatively easy, which adds to its accessibility. If we come by car, the A-8 highway (Autovía del Cantábrico) is our main access route. We must take the exit towards Castropol or Ribadeo, depending on our direction. Once on the N-634, the signage towards Castropol and, subsequently, towards the beach, is clear and will guide us without problems. The road journey already offers beautiful views of the western Asturian coast and the Eo estuary itself, making the trip part of the experience.

Regarding parking, the beach has a designated parking area nearby, which is a great advantage, especially during the summer months. Although it can fill up during peak hours, we generally find a spot without too much trouble. For those who prefer public transport, the options are more limited, as is often the case with many Asturian beaches. However, there are bus lines connecting Castropol with other nearby towns, and from the town center, the beach is a short walk or taxi ride away. We always recommend a car for the freedom to explore the surroundings at our leisure, but if the idea is just to enjoy the beach, the other options are viable.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Arnao wins us over with its sand. It is fine and golden sand, incredibly pleasant to the touch, perfect for lying down and relaxing in the sun, or for the little ones to build their sandcastles effortlessly. We love feeling it slip through our fingers, and its cleanliness is notable, a reflection of the care dedicated to this coastal gem. Walking barefoot on it at sunset is one of those small, great experiences we treasure.

The waters of Playa de Arnao are one of its greatest attractions. Being inside the Eo estuary, they are sheltered from the rough waves of the Cantabrian Sea, making them a haven of peace. They are very calm waters, with minimal current, making them ideal for swimming, especially for families with young children. Their temperature is typical of the Cantabrian, refreshing in summer but very inviting. The clarity of the water, despite being an estuary beach, is surprising, and the feeling of safety when swimming here is unbeatable. We always highly value this calm, which allows us to enjoy the sea without worries.

We find an infrastructure designed for visitor comfort, which greatly facilitates our stay and allows us to relax knowing everything is covered.

• Parking: As already mentioned, having a nearby and organized parking area saves us a lot of headaches.
• Chiringuitos: There's always a good chiringuito right on the beach where we can have a cool drink, an ice cream, or even enjoy a snack or tapa. The atmosphere is usually relaxed and very pleasant, perfect for a midday break.
• Lifeguard Service: During the high season, the beach has a lifeguard service, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if we go with children. Their presence is a key factor for safety.
• Children's Play Area: For the little ones, there is a play area that allows them to burn off energy and have fun outside the water. It's a detail that families greatly appreciate.
• Equipment Rental: Often, we find options to rent equipment like kayaks or paddle surf boards, which allows us to explore the estuary from another perspective.
• Sunshades and Sunbeds: If we don't want to carry our own, it's possible to rent sunshades and sunbeds right on the beach, making the day of sun and relaxation even easier.
