When we think of Gran Canaria beaches, places like Maspalomas or Playa del Inglés often come to mind, but Playa de Arinaga shows us another side of the island. Here, the volcanic landscape merges with the sea, creating a fascinating environment. We are looking at a semi-urban beach, perfectly integrated into the fishing village of Arinaga, which gives it a special character and a very complete range of services without losing its local essence. It's the perfect place for those seeking a different getaway, where tranquility and adventure go hand in hand.

How to Get to Playa de Arinaga

Getting to Playa de Arinaga is relatively straightforward, making it an accessible destination for everyone. If we're coming from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or from the south of the island, the most comfortable way is to take the GC-1 motorway and exit at the Arinaga turn-off. The drive from Las Palmas usually takes about 25-30 minutes, while from the south (Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas) it's approximately 20 minutes. Once in the village, the signage will easily guide us to the beach area and its wide promenade.

For those who prefer public transport, the Global company offers several bus lines connecting Arinaga with other towns on the island, including Las Palmas and the airport. The bus stops are a short distance from the beach, making access easy even if we don't have our own vehicle. We always recommend checking the updated timetables to plan the visit in advance.

Regarding Parking, we won't have major problems. Along the promenade and in the streets adjacent to the Agüimes beach, we will find plenty of free parking spaces. It's true that during high season or on summer weekends it might be a bit more difficult to find a spot right next to the beach, but there are always options within a short walking distance. The ease of access and parking is one of the strong points of this beach, allowing us to enjoy it from the first moment without worries.

The Sand and Water

When we talk about Playa de Arinaga, it's important to highlight that its 'sand' is not the typical golden sand we might expect on other Gran Canaria beaches. Here, the landscape reveals the volcanic nature of the island. The sand type is `mixed`, with dark volcanic sand predominating, mixed with pebbles and stones that give it a unique appearance. The `ground type` is also `mixed`, where areas of finer sand alternate with others of rock and pebbles. This makes it advisable to use water shoes or appropriate footwear for swimming, especially if we are sensitive to stones.

However, what truly captivates us about the waters of Playa de Arinaga is their clarity and calmness. Protected by a natural reef and a breakwater, the bay offers a calm sea, ideal for bathing and for practicing various water activities. The water quality is excellent, which has earned it the Blue Flag distinction, an award for its cleanliness and the quality of its services. Diving or snorkeling here is a wonderful experience, as its seabeds are rich in life and very well preserved.

We will be surprised by the diversity of fish we can observe at shallow depths, making this beach a paradise for lovers of the underwater world. The water's transparency allows us to easily see schools of fish, octopuses, and other marine species, turning every immersion into a small adventure. Despite the pebbles, the feeling of diving into these waters is refreshing and revitalizing, inviting us to spend hours exploring or simply floating and enjoying the peace of the surroundings.

Services and Facilities

One of the strong points of Playa de Arinaga is the complete range of services and facilities it offers us, guaranteeing a comfortable and pleasant beach day. Being a semi-urban beach, it is perfectly integrated into the heart of the village, which means we have everything at hand. The promenade, recently renovated, is a delight for walking, running, or simply sitting and contemplating the sea.

Among the essential services, we find Showers to wash off the salt and sand after swimming, as well as public Toilets/WCs in good condition. Safety is a priority, so we have a Lifeguard service during the bathing season, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if we are with children. Furthermore, the beach has adapted access points in some areas, although its `total_accessibility` is not complete for all needs.

In terms of dining, the offer is very varied. Along the promenade and in the nearby streets, we will find numerous Chiringuitos and Restaurants where we can taste delicious local cuisine, especially fresh fish. For the more active, there are Equipment Rental centers for diving and snorkeling, as well as designated areas for practicing sports. There are also Sports Zone areas and, of course, ample Parking as we already mentioned. The comfort of having all this so close makes our experience at this Agüimes beach unbeatable.
