How to Get to Playa de Anaxos

Getting to Playa de Anaxos is relatively straightforward, especially if you are already on the island of Lesbos. The island has Mytilene International Airport 'Odysseas Elytis' (MJT), which receives flights from Athens and other Greek cities, as well as international charter flights during the high season. Once at the airport, the beach is located about 60 kilometers to the northwest, a journey that offers us the opportunity to admire the picturesque landscapes of Lesbos.

By Rental Car

We always recommend renting a car to explore Lesbos at your own pace. It's the most comfortable and flexible option. From Mytilene, we take the main road north towards Kalloni, and then continue towards Petra and Anaxos. The journey takes approximately one hour and twenty minutes, and the roads are in good condition, although they can be a bit winding in some sections. Parking in Anaxos is quite accessible; you'll find designated areas near the beach, often free or associated with local establishments.

By Bus

There is a public bus service (KTEL Lesvos) connecting Mytilene with the main villages of the island, including Petra and Molyvos, which are very close to Anaxos. From Mytilene, we can take a bus that will drop us off in Petra or Molyvos, and from there, a short taxi ride or even a 20-30 minute walk will take us to Playa de Anaxos. Schedules are regular during the high season, but it's always advisable to check them in advance, as they may vary.

By Taxi

For those who prefer comfort without worrying about driving, a taxi from Mytilene airport to Anaxos is a viable option. The cost will be higher than the bus or a rental car, but it will drop you off directly at your accommodation or at the beach. It's a good alternative if you're traveling with a lot of luggage or prefer to avoid transport planning.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Anaxos welcomes us with a charming combination of sand and fine pebbles, giving it a distinctive character. As we approach the sea, the sand mixes with small stones polished by the waves, creating a pleasant texture underfoot. This particularity keeps the water exceptionally clear and transparent, one of the great advantages of beaches with this type of terrain. It's not fine, white sand in the Caribbean style, but rather sand with a golden hue that, under the Greek sun, takes on a special shine.

The waters of Anaxos are, without exaggeration, one of its greatest attractions. Of an intense turquoise blue that gently fades into deeper tones, their transparency is such that we can easily see the seabed, even several meters deep. They are calm waters, protected from strong currents, making them a safe and very pleasant place for swimming. The entrance to the sea is gradual, a feature highly valued by families with young children, who can splash safely at the shore. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is perfect for cooling off and enjoying long swims. We have spent hours simply floating and letting the sea breeze caress us, feeling the stress dissipate with each wave.
