If there's one corner in the Saronic archipelago that has stolen our hearts, it is, without a doubt, the Playa de Agioi Anargyroi on the beautiful island of Spetses, Greece. For us, it is one of those Mediterranean gems that perfectly combines natural beauty with the comfort of excellent facilities. From the first moment we set foot on its shore, we were captivated by its hypnotic blue waters and the tranquility that permeates every corner. It's not just a beach; it's an experience that invites us to disconnect, immerse ourselves in the essence of Greek island life, and create unforgettable memories.

This beach, located in the southwestern part of the island, is considerably larger than many of its neighbors, giving it a sense of space and freedom that we greatly value. It's the kind of place where you can spend the whole day, from the early morning hours when the sun begins to gently warm the sand and pebbles, until sunset, when the colors of the sky blend with the sea in a postcard-worthy spectacle. Whether we're looking for a day of pure relaxation under the sun, a refreshing dip in its crystal-clear waters, or even some activity, Playa de Agioi Anargyroi always offers us what we need.

How to Get to Playa de Agioi Anargyroi

Getting to Playa de Agioi Anargyroi is part of the adventure and charm of visiting Spetses. First, we must reach the island. The most common and efficient way is to take a ferry or a hydrofoil (locally known as a 'Flying Dolphin') from the port of Piraeus, near Athens. The hydrofoil trip is faster, taking approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, while the ferry is a bit slower but also more economical. We always enjoy the crossing, watching the islands appear on the horizon.

Once in Spetses, Playa de Agioi Anargyroi is located about 10-12 kilometers southwest of Spetses Town (Dapia), the main port and capital of the island. Given the island's regulations that prohibit private vehicle traffic to preserve its charm, our internal transport options are very unique and add a special touch to the experience:

Transport Options in Spetses:

• Water taxi: It's one of the most picturesque and fastest ways to get there. From the port of Spetses Town, we can take one of these small boats that will take us directly to the beach. It's a charming experience, especially if the sea is calm, and allows us to enjoy the coastal views. It's an option we highly recommend, although it can be a bit more expensive.
• Local bus: There is a bus service connecting Spetses Town with the island's main beaches, including Agioi Anargyroi. It's the most economical option and allows us to mingle with the locals. Schedules are usually regular during the high season, but it's advisable to check them in advance.
• Motorcycle or quad: We can rent a motorcycle or a quad in Spetses Town. This is an excellent option if we like the freedom to explore the island at our own pace. The road to the beach is mostly paved and offers beautiful scenery. Just be cautious.
• Bicycle: For the more adventurous and physically fit, renting a bicycle is a fantastic way to get there. The ride can be a bit demanding due to some slopes, but the reward of reaching the beach after a ride through nature is unmatched.
• On foot: Although it's a long walk (about 2-3 hours from Spetses Town), it's possible to walk there by following the coastal road. It's an option for experienced hikers who enjoy long walks and panoramic views. We've done it on occasion, and although tiring, the views are worth it.

The Sand and Water

When talking about Playa de Agioi Anargyroi, it's impossible not to stop and describe the uniqueness of its sand and the impressive quality of its waters. For us, these are two of the pillars that make this beach such a special and recurring destination on our trips to the beaches of Greece.

A Bed of Pebbles and Sand:

The composition of Agioi Anargyroi's shoreline is one of its most distinctive features. It's not a typical fine golden sand beach, nor is it a cove of large, slippery pebbles. What we find here is a harmonious mix: a bed of small, round pebbles intertwined with coarser grains of sand. This combination gives the beach a peculiar feel underfoot; it's soft enough to walk on comfortably, but firm enough that the water remains incredibly clear, as sediments are not easily stirred up. We always appreciate this mixed texture, which is a hallmark of many of the beaches of Spetses. Furthermore, the pebbles, polished by the constant ebb and flow of the waves, acquire beautiful hues that shine under the Mediterranean sun, adding a rustic, natural charm to the landscape.
