How to Get to Playa de Agia Pelagia
Getting to Playa de Agia Pelagia is relatively easy, thanks to its proximity to Heraklion and the good transport connections in Crete. If we fly into Heraklion International Airport (HER), which is the most common, we have several options to reach our coastal destination.
From Heraklion and the Airport
- By rental car: This is, without a doubt, the option we most recommend for exploring Crete with total freedom. From the airport or the centre of Heraklion, the journey takes approximately 20-25 minutes (about 20-25 kilometres) along the national E75 road, which runs along the coast. The signage to Agia Pelagia is clear, and once we leave the main road, the path leads us directly to the heart of the village and the beach. There are several car rental companies at the airport and in the city, and booking in advance usually guarantees better prices and availability, especially in high season.
- By public bus: For those who prefer public transport, there are regular buses connecting Heraklion with Agia Pelagia. Heraklion's central bus station (KTEL) offers frequent services during the day. The journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes and is an economical way to get there. Once in Agia Pelagia, the bus stop is conveniently located near the main beach, making it easy to access accommodation and the coast. It is an excellent option for getting to know the Heraklion (Crete) beaches like a local.
