How to Get to Playa Costa Esmeralda

Getting to Playa Costa Esmeralda is relatively straightforward, depending on our starting point. The most common and convenient way is by road, as this coastal strip is well connected to the main cities of the state and the country.

From Veracruz City

If we depart from the city of Veracruz, the journey takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours by car. We will take federal highway 180, known as the Gulf Coast road, heading north. It's a scenic route that will allow us to appreciate the diversity of the Veracruz landscape. We must pay attention to the signs indicating the turnoffs to the different towns that make up the Costa Esmeralda, such as Nautla, Casitas, or Monte Gordo.

From Mexico City

For those traveling from Mexico City, the trip is a bit longer, with an estimated duration of 4 to 5 hours. The most direct route is to take highway 132D towards Tulancingo and then highway 130D towards Poza Rica. From Poza Rica, we will head south on federal highway 180 until we reach our destination at Playa Costa Esmeralda. It's a comfortable journey with good roads, although it's always advisable to leave early to avoid traffic and enjoy the scenery calmly.

Other Options

We can also consider flying into Veracruz International Airport (VER) or Poza Rica Airport (PAZ), although the latter has fewer frequencies. Once at the airport, we can rent a car, which is highly recommended to move freely along the entire coast and explore the surroundings. Another option is to take a bus from the Veracruz or Poza Rica bus terminals to one of the coastal towns, although the frequency may vary and the comfort is not the same as with your own vehicle.

The Sand and Water
