This coastal gem is located in the municipality of Úrsulo Galván, approximately 50 kilometers north of the city of Veracruz and about 80 kilometers from Xalapa, the state capital.

If your starting point is the port of Veracruz, the most common and comfortable way to get there is by car. You'll take federal highway 180 heading north, towards Cardel. Once in Cardel, you must take the turnoff towards the coast. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic. The road is in good condition and offers pleasant scenery. If you don't have your own vehicle, you can opt for a taxi or private transportation services, although these can be more expensive. Another option are the local buses that depart from the Veracruz terminal bound for Cardel, and from there take a shared or private taxi to the beach. It's a very frequented route, so finding transportation won't be a problem.

From Xalapa, the route is also direct. You should take federal highway 140 which will take you to Cardel. Once in Cardel, follow the signs to the coast, just as if you were coming from Veracruz. The trip from Xalapa usually takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes. As with from Veracruz, you can opt for buses that take you to Cardel and from there connect with local transport.

For those coming from more distant cities, the most practical option is to fly to the General Heriberto Jara International Airport (VER) in Veracruz. From there, you can rent a car directly at the airport or take a taxi to the beach. Renting a car will give you more freedom to explore not only Chachalacas, but also nearby attractions. The ease of access is, without a doubt, a plus for this beach in Veracruz.
The Sand and Water
The experience at Playa Chachalacas undoubtedly begins with the feel of the sand under our feet. Here, the sand is predominantly fine and of a light golden hue, inviting barefoot walks along the shore. It's the kind of sand that feels soft and warm, perfect for building sandcastles or simply relaxing in the sun. The dunes, which are a distinctive feature of this beach, are also made of fine sand, which facilitates their movement and the creation of changing landscapes with the wind. We love the feeling of the pristine sand and the spaciousness it offers to find our own spot, even on busier days.
As for the water, that of Playa Chachalacas is the typical warm water of the Gulf of Mexico, with a very pleasant temperature for most of the year, making it perfect for swimming and enjoying a dip at any time. The clarity of the water can vary; in general, it's a greenish or bluish hue, characteristic of Mexico beaches in this region. Don't expect the crystal-clear transparency of the Caribbean, but rather a water quality suitable for bathing and very refreshing. The waves are usually moderate, making it a safe beach for swimmers of all ages and especially suitable for families with young children. We rarely find strong currents, but it's always prudent to pay attention to lifeguard instructions.
