Introduction
From the moment we set foot on Playa Cayo Las Brujas, in the province of Villa Clara, Cuba, we knew we had arrived at a true tropical Eden. This corner of the Jardines del Rey archipelago welcomes us with an explosion of colors: the immaculate white of its sand, the vibrant turquoise of its waters, and the lush green of the vegetation that borders it. It's one of those beaches that etches itself into your memory, a natural canvas where time seems to stand still and the only concern is enjoying the beauty that surrounds us.
Cayo Las Brujas, together with the cays of Santa María and Ensenachos, is part of a group of islets connected by an impressive causeway, a road over the sea that is, in itself, a unique experience. Here, pristine nature combines with the comfort of resorts, creating a perfect balance for those seeking both adventure and tranquility. It's a destination that has it all for an unforgettable vacation, whether as a couple, with friends, or with family, and it invites us to immerse ourselves in the purest essence of the Caribbean. The Villa Clara beach is, without a doubt, a treasure to be discovered.
How to Get to Playa Cayo Las Brujas
Getting to Playa Cayo Las Brujas is part of the adventure. The most common way is to fly into Abel Santamaría International Airport (SNU) in Santa Clara, the provincial capital of Villa Clara. From there, a journey of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours by bus or taxi awaits, crossing the famous causeway. This bridge, about 48 kilometers long, is an impressive feat of engineering that winds over the sea, offering us spectacular panoramic views of the crystal-clear waters and mangroves.
Transportation Options
- Direct Flights: Some tour operators offer charter flights directly to Cayo Las Brujas Airport (MZO), a smaller airport located on the cay itself, which significantly reduces transfer time to the resort.
- Organized Transfers: Most tour packages include the transfer from Santa Clara airport to the hotels on Cayo Las Brujas. This is the most comfortable and recommended option.
- Car Rental: If we prefer the freedom to explore on our own, we can rent a car in Santa Clara. However, once on the cay, most travel is done on foot or with the internal hotel shuttles, as distances are short and the atmosphere invites calm. It's important to remember that roads outside the causeway may not be in the best condition.
The Sand and Water
The sand at Playa Cayo Las Brujas is simply spectacular. We are faced with fine sand, of such a pure white that it almost dazzles under the Caribbean sun. Its texture is soft and pleasant to the touch, inviting us to walk barefoot along the shore, feeling each grain under our feet. It's the kind of sand that doesn't get excessively hot, allowing us to enjoy long walks even during the middle of the day. This type of ground: sand is ideal for relaxing or building sandcastles with the little ones.
But if the sand is impressive, the water is simply sublime. The waters of Playa Cayo Las Brujas are an intense turquoise color, crystal clear and warm, with visibility that allows us to see the seabed several meters away. The absence of strong currents and the shallow depth near the shore make it a safe and welcoming place, perfect for swimming, splashing, or simply floating without worries. It's a true natural aquarium where, with a bit of luck, we can spot small tropical fish, starfish, and other marine wonders near the shore. The calmness of the sea invites us to dive in and forget about the outside world.
