How to Get to Playa Blanca

For those coming from Santo Domingo, the capital, the journey takes approximately two and a half to three hours by car, depending on traffic and the chosen route. Generally, we will take the Sánchez Highway (DR-2) heading west, passing through San Cristóbal and Baní, until reaching Azua.

Once in the city of Azua, the path to Playa Blanca involves taking detours towards the coast. It is advisable to use a GPS or map applications, as signage can be limited in some sections. The last few kilometers are usually on secondary roads, sometimes not fully paved, which adds a touch of exploration to our arrival. It is not a difficult road, but it does require a bit of attention. We always recommend renting a vehicle to have the freedom to explore at our own pace, although it is also possible to hire a taxi from Azua or even negotiate with a 'motoconcho' (motorcycle taxi) for the shorter stretches. The reward, upon seeing the vastness of Playa Blanca, is well worth the trip.

Tips for the Journey

• Suitable Vehicle: An SUV or a car with good suspension will be more comfortable, especially if the secondary roads are in poor condition. However, a regular car is usually sufficient.
• Fuel: Make sure to have a full tank before leaving Azua, as you won't find many gas stations in the vicinity of the beach.
• Water and Snacks: Although there are beach bars (chiringuitos) on the beach, it's a good idea to bring provisions for the road, especially if traveling with children.
• Timing: Try to arrive during daylight to appreciate the landscape and facilitate orientation. Leaving before nightfall is also preferable.
