When we think of beaches in Yucatán, more well-known destinations often come to mind, but Playa Telchac offers us a refreshing alternative. Here, overcrowding is a foreign concept. Instead, we find a welcoming community, fishermen with their boats, and families enjoying the simplicity of a day at the beach. It's a perfect destination for those who, like us, seek to disconnect from the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature, and enjoy genuine moments in an unparalleled setting. How to Get to Playa Telchac

Getting to Playa Telchac is an exciting part of the adventure, and we thoroughly enjoy it. The most common and convenient way to access this Yucatecan paradise is through Mérida, the capital of the state of Yucatán, which has the Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport (MID). From there, we have several options to begin our journey to the coast.

From Mérida

• By car: For us, renting a car is the most recommended option, as it gives us the freedom to explore at our own pace and discover the charms of the surrounding area. From Mérida, the journey to Playa Telchac is approximately 60 kilometers and usually takes about an hour, depending on traffic. The most direct route is to take federal highway 172 east, passing through towns like Motul, and then turn off towards the coast. The roads are generally in good condition, making the trip comfortable and safe.
• Public transportation: If we prefer not to drive, there are colectivos or second-class buses that depart from the Mérida bus terminal bound for Telchac Puerto. From Telchac Puerto, the beach is a short distance away, which we can cover by local taxi or even on foot if we are staying near the town. This option is more economical, although it may be less flexible in terms of schedules and stops.
• Taxi services or ride-hailing apps: We can also opt for a taxi or a private transportation service from Mérida. This is a comfortable option, especially if we are traveling with luggage, but it is usually more expensive than public transportation.

From Cancún or Riviera Maya

If our starting point is Cancún or the Riviera Maya, the journey will be longer. We can take a first-class ADO bus to Mérida (approximately 4-5 hours) and, from there, follow the directions mentioned above. Alternatively, we can fly directly to Mérida from Cancún if we find a convenient connection.

We always recommend checking road conditions and transportation schedules in advance, especially during high seasons or holidays. This way, our trip to Playa Telchac will be as pleasant as possible.

It's clean and well-maintained sand, which contributes to the feeling of purity and relaxation we seek in a beach destination. We won't find sharp rocks or annoying pebbles, making it very comfortable for all ages.

Water Characteristics

The waters of Playa Telchac are, without a doubt, one of its greatest attractions. We are surprised by their calmness and shallowness, especially near the shore, making it an exceptionally safe place for swimming and family enjoyment. The color of the sea ranges from a bright turquoise to a light blue, offering a spectacular view. Its temperature is pleasantly warm for most of the year, inviting us to immerse ourselves and cool off at any time.
