- By car: This is our preferred option. From Mérida, we take federal highway 281 heading west. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours (about 90 km). The road is good and well-signposted.
- By bus: Second-class buses depart from the Noreste terminal in Mérida. The trip is more economical, although it can take about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
- Organized tours: Many agencies in Mérida offer day trips, including transportation and a boat tour.
From Other Locations
From the Riviera Maya or Cancún, the journey is long (4-5 hours to Mérida plus the route to Celestún). From Campeche, the drive is about 2 and a half hours via the coastal highway. Upon reaching the town of Celestún, the beach and the dock are easy to find. We recommend filling up the tank in Mérida, as options in Celestún are limited.
