How to Get to Playa Tuxpan

Getting to Playa Tuxpan is relatively straightforward, although the way we choose to do it will depend on our starting location and our preferences. We always recommend planning ahead to ensure a hassle-free trip.

By Car

If we are coming from Mexico City or the center of the country, the most common route is to take the Mexico-Tuxpan highway (Mexico 132D and 130D), a journey that, with recent infrastructure development, has become much more efficient, reducing travel time to about 3-4 hours. From other parts of Veracruz, federal highway 180 is the main artery that will connect us to this beautiful corner. Driving gives us the flexibility to explore the surroundings at our own pace, something we highly value in our travels.

By Bus

For those who prefer the comfort of public transportation, Tuxpan has a modern bus terminal. Companies like ADO offer frequent routes from major Mexican cities, including Mexico City, Puebla, Xalapa, and Veracruz. Once at the Tuxpan terminal, we can take a taxi or a colectivo (local public transport) that will take us directly to the beach area in about 15-20 minutes. It is a practical and economical option that many travelers choose.

By Plane

Although Tuxpan does not have its own international airport, the nearest airport is Poza Rica International Airport (PAZ), located approximately 50 kilometers to the south. From there, we can take a taxi or a private transportation service that will take us to Playa Tuxpan in about 45 minutes to an hour. This option is ideal for those traveling from more distant points in the country or from abroad, looking to improve transfer time.

The Sand and Water

The first thing we notice when stepping onto Playa Tuxpan is the quality of its sand. It is predominantly fine sand and golden, incredibly soft underfoot, making it perfect for long barefoot walks or for building sandcastles with the little ones. The soil type is, as expected, mostly sand, without annoying rocks that hinder access to the sea or comfort while strolling.

The waters of Playa Tuxpan are one of its most attractive features. They are generally calm, with a gentle surf that makes it a safe place to swim, especially for children and the elderly. The water temperature is warm for most of the year, inviting us to dive in and enjoy a refreshing swim without surprises. The clarity, although not comparable to that of Caribbean beaches, is good, allowing us to see the bottom in the shallower areas. This combination of fine sand and serene waters is what, for us, defines the relaxation experience at this Veracruz beach.

Services and Facilities

Playa Tuxpan is well prepared to receive visitors, offering a range of services that make our stay more comfortable and pleasant. We always appreciate when a beach is not only beautiful but also functional.

Among the most notable services we find:

• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Along the beach, we will see numerous chiringuitos and small restaurants serving delicious local food, especially fresh fish and seafood. We can enjoy a michelada or a cold coconut under the shade of a palapa.
• Umbrellas and Sun Loungers: There are a large number of palapas and umbrellas available for rent, often along with sun loungers, allowing us to protect ourselves from the sun and relax comfortably by the sea.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: Basic showers are available to wash off the sand and salt after a dip, as well as public toilets, although their condition may vary. We always recommend carrying some hand sanitizer.
• Parking: There are parking areas, some free and others with a symbolic cost, which facilitates access to the beach for those arriving by car.
• Lifeguards: During the high season and on weekends, there are usually lifeguards watching the beach, which adds an extra layer of safety, especially if we are traveling with children. However, we always advise not to let our guard down and to pay attention to the instructions.
• Street Vendors: It is common to find vendors offering everything from local crafts to snacks, ice cream, and refreshing drinks. It's always good to have some change on hand to enjoy these little treats.

Best Time to Visit

Choosing the best time
