How to Get to Playa Las Conchas

Getting to Playa Las Conchas is relatively straightforward, especially if traveling from the southwestern United States. The beach is located just south of Puerto Peñasco, also known as Rocky Point, in the state of Sonora, Mexico. From the United States

For those coming from Arizona or California, the most common route is through the border at Lukeville, Arizona (Sonoyta, Sonora on the Mexican side). From there, Federal Highway 8 leads directly to Puerto Peñasco. Once in the city, take the coastal highway south, following the signs leading to the Las Conchas area, which is a private residential community with controlled access, but the beach is public. The journey from the border to the beach usually takes about an hour.

By Plane

Although the most popular option is by car, it is also possible to fly into the Mar de Cortés International Airport (Puerto Peñasco, IATA code: PPE). This airport receives charter flights and, occasionally, commercial flights from some cities. Once at the airport, you can take taxis or private transportation services to reach the Las Conchas area, which is about 15-20 minutes away.

Travel Tips

• Documentation: Make sure to have valid passports and, if traveling by car, the vehicle registration and Mexican auto insurance.
• Currency: Although US dollars are accepted in many places in Puerto Peñasco, it's always a good idea to carry Mexican pesos for small purchases or at more local establishments.

The waters of the Sea of Cortez here are generally calm, clear, and shallow, making them ideal for swimming, especially for the little ones in the family. Most of these services are concentrated in areas near the main access points or in the tourist establishments and vacation rentals that line the beach.
