Far from the bustle of Zicatela's giant waves, this cove offers us a sanctuary of peace, with waters so serene they seem like a mirror and marine life that invites us to explore it. It's the kind of place where time seems to stand still, where the sun caresses the skin and the gentle murmur of the waves lulls us into a nap under a palapa.

When we think of Oaxaca beaches, images of bold surfers or dramatic sunsets often come to mind. However, Playa Manzanillo reminds us of the diversity and richness of Mexico beaches, offering us a completely different experience. Here, the priority is rest, connection with nature, and safe fun for the whole family. It's a destination we highly recommend to those looking to escape stress and immerse themselves in the authentic essence of Mexican beach life.

How to Get to Playa Manzanillo

Getting to Playa Manzanillo is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it's quite simple from any point in Puerto Escondido. We always recommend exploring the different options so everyone can choose what best suits their style and budget.

From the Center of Puerto Escondido

If we are in the heart of Puerto Escondido, we have several ways to get to this Eden. The most common and comfortable way is, without a doubt, to take a taxi. Taxis in Puerto Escondido are abundant and, although it's important to agree on the price before getting in, they are usually quite reasonable. The journey from the center to Playa Manzanillo shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic. It's an excellent option if we're loaded with umbrellas, coolers, or snorkeling gear.

Another economical and very local alternative is the colectivo. These shared taxis, usually pickup trucks with benches in the back, follow fixed routes and are an experience in themselves. We'll have to ask for the route going towards the Carrizalillo or Rinconada area, and ask the driver to drop us off as close as possible to Playa Manzanillo. From where we're dropped off, we'll probably have a short walk of about 5 to 10 minutes, which is perfect for stretching our legs and admiring the scenery.

From Puerto Escondido International Airport (PMX)

For those arriving by air, the airport is conveniently located about 10-15 minutes by car from Puerto Escondido. From there, we can take an authorized airport taxi directly to our accommodation or, if adventure calls, negotiate with a local taxi outside the terminal (although prices may vary and airport taxis are usually safer and regulated). Once settled, we can follow the instructions above to get to Playa Manzanillo.

On Foot or by Bicycle

If we're staying in nearby areas like Carrizalillo or La Rinconada, walking to Playa Manzanillo is a charming option. It's a relatively short walk, about 15 to 25 minutes, that allows us to enjoy the local atmosphere, observe the colorful houses, and feel the sea breeze. We can even rent a bicycle for a faster and more fun journey, although we should consider there are some ups and downs. This option is ideal for those looking to stay active and fully immerse themselves in the destination's atmosphere.

The Sand and Water

When stepping onto the sand of Playa Manzanillo, the first thing we notice is its incredible softness. It's a fine, golden sand that feels deliciously warm under our feet and invites us to take off our sandals immediately. Unlike other Oaxaca beaches that may have coarser sand or be mixed with shells, here the feeling is pure comfort, perfect for building sandcastles with children or simply lying down and enjoying the sun.

But if the sand enchants us, the water completely captivates us. The waters of Playa Manzanillo are, without exaggeration, crystal clear and of a beautiful turquoise hue that reminds us of Caribbean postcards. The visibility is exceptional, making it a paradise for snorkeling lovers. Even without a mask, we can see small fish swimming near the shore, a magical experience for the little ones and for those who enjoy simple observation.

An Underwater Sanctuary

The main characteristic of the waters of this Oaxaca beach is their incredible calm. Protected by rock formations on both sides, the cove acts like a natural pool, where waves break gently or simply become small ripples. This tranquility is ideal for:

• Swimmers of all ages: From young children taking their first dips to adults looking for a relaxing swim without worrying about strong currents.
• Snorkeling and free diving: The rocks at the ends of the beach harbor vibrant marine life. We've spent hours exploring the nearby reefs, marveling at colorful fish, starfish, and, if we're lucky, a sea turtle passing by to say hello.
