How to Get to Playa Chahué

Getting to Playa Chahué is quite straightforward, which adds to its appeal. It is located within the tourist development of Bahías de Huatulco, in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. We can choose from several routes:

By Plane

The nearest airport is the Huatulco International Airport (HUX), which receives domestic and international flights. From there, the journey by taxi or shuttle to Playa Chahué is approximately 20-30 minutes, traveling along a well-signposted and well-maintained road. It is the most comfortable and fastest option for most visitors.

By Car

If we are coming from Oaxaca City or other nearby cities, we can arrive by car via Federal Highway 200. The trip from Oaxaca City takes about 6-8 hours, depending on road conditions and traffic. Huatulco's infrastructure is very well developed, and finding parking near the beach is usually not a problem, especially in designated areas.

By Local Public Transport

From neighboring towns like La Crucecita or Santa Cruz, we can take a taxi or even a 'colectivo' (shared transport) that will drop us off very close to the main entrance of the beach. It is an economical option and allows us to mix a bit more with the local rhythm.

The Sand and Water

The sensory experience at Playa Chahué begins with its sand. We find fine, soft sand, of a light golden tone that shines under the Oaxacan sun. It is a delight to walk barefoot on it, to feel it slip between our toes, and it is perfect for children who enjoy building sandcastles or simply playing with it.

The waters of Playa Chahué are, without exaggeration, spectacular. Their transparency allows us to easily see the sandy bottom, and their color varies from an emerald green near the shore to a deep blue further out. They are notably calm waters, largely protected by the configuration of the bay, making them an ideal place for safe swimming, even for the little ones or for those who are not expert swimmers. The water temperature is warm and pleasant for most of the year, inviting us to spend hours immersed in its refreshing embrace. It is not an Oaxaca beach known for spectacular coral reefs right at the shoreline, but the water clarity does allow for enjoying a quiet snorkel to observe small fish and coastal marine life.

Services and Facilities

One of the strong points of Playa Chahué is its excellent service infrastructure, which has earned it the Blue Flag distinction. We highly value comfort, and here we find it in abundance:

• Showers and Restrooms/WC: We have access to clean and well-maintained facilities to freshen up after a swim and for our comfort.
• Parking: There are nearby parking areas, which is very convenient if we arrive by car.
• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Along the beach and in its surroundings, we find an excellent variety of chiringuitos and restaurants offering everything from local snacks and fresh seafood to international cuisine options. It's perfect for enjoying a meal or a refreshing drink with sea views.
• Lifeguards: Safety is paramount, and Playa Chahué has a team of lifeguards monitoring the swimming area, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if traveling with children.
• Umbrellas and Sun Loungers: There is a plentiful supply of umbrellas and sun loungers for rent, allowing us to relax comfortably in the shade and enjoy the scenery without worrying about bringing our own equipment.
• Equipment Rental: For the more active, there are stalls where we can rent equipment for water activities like kayaks, paddle surfboards, or even small boats to explore the bay.
• Accessibility: While not fully accessible in every corner, the beach has ramps and paved walkways in several sections, facilitating access for people with reduced mobility to certain areas of the beach and the main services. It is an effort that we applaud.

Best Time to Visit

For us, the best time to visit Playa Chahué and the Bays of Huatulco in general, is during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, the weather is predominantly sunny, with warm but pleasant temperatures, low humidity, and very little chance of rain.
