This jewel of the Nayarit coast offers us a genuine beach experience, far from the crowds and large resorts. How to Get to Playa Chacala

Getting to Playa Chacala is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it's quite accessible. The most common way is to fly into Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR), which is about 1.5 to 2 hours away by car. From there, we have several options:

• Rental car: This is the option we recommend for total freedom. Highway 200, which connects Puerto Vallarta with Tepic, is the main route. You need to take the turnoff towards Chacala, which is well signposted. The journey is scenic and in good condition.
• Taxi or private transportation: We can hire a taxi or a private transportation service directly from the airport. It's a comfortable option, although a bit more expensive.
• Bus: From the Puerto Vallarta bus terminal (or from downtown), we can take a bus to Las Varas, a nearby town. From Las Varas, there are taxis or colectivos that will take us directly to Playa Chacala in about 20-30 minutes. It's the most economical option and allows us to experience local transportation.

The Sand and Water

The sand at Playa Chacala is, without exaggeration, one of its main attractions. It's a soft golden hue, incredibly fine and soft to the touch, making it perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles, or simply lying down to sunbathe. The beach is quite extensive, approximately 900 meters long, which ensures we'll always find a quiet spot for ourselves, even in high season.

As for the water, it's simply paradisiacal. The waters of Playa Chacala are known for being exceptionally calm and warm, with very gentle waves that make it an ideal place for swimming, even for young children or those who are not comfortable with strong currents. The clarity of the water is remarkable, allowing us to see the sandy bottom and, at times, small fish approaching the shore. It's a delight to immerse ourselves in this aquatic embrace, feeling the stress dissipate with each wave.

Services and Facilities

Despite being a tranquil destination, Playa Chacala has a service infrastructure that ensures a comfortable stay without losing its rustic charm. Along the beach, we'll find a variety of 'enramadas', which are open-air restaurants with palm roofs, offering shade and delicious local food. Here, we can rent umbrellas and sun loungers for a modest price, ensuring our comfort under the sun.

Among the available services, we highlight:

• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Numerous options to enjoy fresh seafood and typical Mexican dishes right on the sand.
• Parking: There are parking areas, some free and others with a minimal fee, near the beach.
• Showers and Bathrooms/WC: Several establishments offer clean showers and bathrooms for visitors.
• Lifeguards: During high season and on weekends, there are usually lifeguards watching over the safety of swimmers.
• Equipment Rental: We can rent kayaks, paddle surf boards, and sometimes snorkeling gear to explore the bay.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Playa Chacala and the beaches of Nayarit in general, is during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, the weather is predominantly sunny, with pleasant temperatures ranging between 25°C and 30°C, and relatively low humidity. The nights are cool and perfect for a walk or an outdoor dinner. Furthermore, it's the ideal season for humpback whale watching in Banderas Bay, although this requires a boat excursion.

The rainy season runs from June to October. During these months, we can expect tropical rains, often intense but short-lived, which usually occur in the afternoon or evening. The landscape becomes lush and green, but the humidity is higher. Although we can enjoy Playa Chacala during this time, it's important to be prepared for possible downpours. The months of July and August can be quite hot and humid.
