How to Get to Playa Santispac

Getting to Playa Santispac is part of the adventure and often an experience in itself. This beautiful Baja California Sur beach is located approximately 22 kilometers south of Mulegé, a picturesque town, and about 140 kilometers north of Loreto. The most common route is via Federal Highway 1, which runs along much of the Baja California peninsula. We recommend planning a road trip, as the panoramic views along this highway are simply spectacular, with contrasts of desert and sea that take your breath away.

From La Paz or Loreto

If you're coming from the south, for example, from La Paz or Loreto, you'll need to take Federal Highway 1 heading north. After passing Loreto, you'll follow the highway through impressive desert landscapes until you reach Bahía Concepción. Playa Santispac is one of the first major beaches you'll find within the bay, well-marked with a turnoff to the right that will take you directly to the sand. It's a short dirt road but passable for most vehicles, although we always recommend caution.

From Mulegé

If your starting point is Mulegé, the journey is even shorter, approximately 20-30 minutes by car heading south on the same Federal Highway 1. The entrance to Playa Santispac will be on your left. There is no regular public transportation that goes directly to the beach, so your own or a rented vehicle is essential to explore this area at your own pace. The trip is scenic, and every kilometer brings you closer to a paradise of tranquility.

The Sand and Water

The sand at Playa Santispac is predominantly fine and of a light golden hue, soft to the touch and perfect for walking barefoot. It's sand that invites you to spread out a towel and simply relax, letting the sun's warmth seep through you. You won't find sharp rocks or uncomfortable pebbles on most of the beach, making it ideal for all ages.

The waters of Playa Santispac are, without exaggeration, one of its greatest attractions. Basic Services on the Beach

• Chiringuitos: During the day, you'll find small stands or improvised palapas that function as chiringuitos. These places usually offer fresh seafood of the day, such as fish or shrimp tacos, ceviches, and chocolate clams, as well as cold drinks. They are operated by locals and provide an excellent opportunity to try regional cuisine at affordable prices.
• Parking: There are ample informal parking areas directly on the sand or in adjacent areas. It's common to see recreational vehicles (RVs) and campers parked for long periods, taking advantage of the freedom this place offers. Parking is generally free, although some private campgrounds may charge a small fee.
• Bathrooms/WC: You'll find basic bathrooms, often maintained by the same operators of the chiringuitos or by small organized campgrounds. Don't expect luxuries, but they are functional. It's advisable to bring your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
• Umbrellas and Sunbeds: Some of the chiringuitos or local vendors usually have umbrellas and sunbeds available for rent by the day. This is useful if you don't bring your own beach gear and want a bit of shade and comfort.
