How to Get to Playa de Sfiha

Getting to Playa de Sfiha is relatively easy, especially if you are in the city of Alhucemas or its surroundings. The beach is conveniently located a short distance from the city center, making it very accessible for tourists and locals alike. When planning our visit, we considered several transportation options, and we share the most practical ones with you.

By private or rental car

This is, without a doubt, the most comfortable and flexible option for most visitors. From the center of Alhucemas, the journey to Playa de Sfiha usually takes between 10 and 15 minutes, depending on traffic. The road is well signposted and in good condition. We recommend using GPS navigation apps, like Google Maps, which will guide you without problems to the beach. Once there, you will find parking areas, some free and others paid, managed by local attendants, where you can leave your vehicle with peace of mind. Having our own car allowed us to explore the surroundings of the beach with complete freedom, discovering nearby coves and viewpoints.

By taxi

Taxis are a very popular and efficient way to get around Alhucemas and its surroundings. From any point in the city, you can take a 'petit taxi' (small taxis, usually light blue in color, that operate within the city and its immediate surroundings) that will take you directly to Playa de Sfiha. It is advisable to agree on the price with the driver before starting the journey, although fares are usually quite reasonable. For longer trips or if you are coming from outside the city, you can opt for a 'grand taxi' (large taxis, white in color, that operate intercity routes and are usually shared, although they can be hired exclusively). This option is ideal if you prefer not to worry about parking or if you are traveling without your own vehicle.

Public transport (bus)

Although there is no bus line that goes directly to the sand of Playa de Sfiha, there are routes that connect the center of Alhucemas with neighborhoods near the beach. However, from the nearest bus stop, you will probably need to walk a considerable distance or take a local taxi for the last kilometer. We did not choose this route due to the convenience of the other options, but it is an alternative to consider for those on a tighter budget and with plenty of time to explore on foot.

On foot or by bicycle

If you are staying in a hotel or apartment near the beach, or if you enjoy a good walk, getting to Playa de Sfiha on foot or by bicycle can be a pleasant experience. The walk offers panoramic views of the coast and the city. However, keep the climate in mind, especially during the summer months when temperatures can be high. Make sure to bring water and sun protection if you choose this option. We enjoyed a morning walk along the shore, watching the beach wake up with the first bathers.

The sand of Playa de Sfiha is, simply, a delight for the feet. It is fine-grained, with a soft and silky texture that invites you to walk barefoot along its entire length. Its golden color, under the Moroccan sun, takes on a special shine, creating a beautiful contrast with the turquoise blue of the sea. We loved the feeling of the sand between our toes, warm and clean, perfect for sunbathing or for children to build sandcastles with ease. Being fine-grained sand, it compacts well on the shore, making the walk comfortable and pleasant. We hardly found any annoying stones or shells, which contributes to a worry-free beach experience.
