How to get to Playa de Kalamaki

Getting to Playa de Kalamaki is surprisingly easy, which adds an extra point to its appeal. The island of Zante (or Zakynthos, as it is known locally) has an international airport, Zante International Airport 'Dionysios Solomos' (ZTH), which receives direct flights from various European cities, especially during the peak summer season. From the airport, the beach is just a 10-minute drive away, meaning you can go from landing to having your feet in the sand in the blink of an eye. This proximity is a great advantage for families travelling with young children or for those who simply want to minimise travel time.

Transport options

• Rental car: It is, without a doubt, the most comfortable and recommended option for exploring the island at your own pace. There are several car rental agencies at the airport and in the main towns. The road to Kalamaki is well signposted and in good condition.
• Taxi: Taxis are available at the airport and are a quick and direct way to get to your accommodation in Kalamaki. Be sure to agree on the price before starting the journey.
• Local bus: Zante has a local bus service, although it can be less frequent and flexible than other options. Check the timetables if this is your preference, as the nearest stop may require a short walk.

During the summer months, from May to October, you can see the protected nesting areas with small cages to prevent the nests from being trampled. It is a privilege to be able to share this space with these ancient creatures, and we always recommend visitors respect the protection rules: do not dig in the sand, do not leave litter, and avoid using umbrellas outside the designated areas, especially at dusk and dawn, when the turtles usually come out or enter the sea. Night lighting is restricted to avoid disorienting the hatchlings.
