How to Get to Playa de Plaka

From Spain or other European countries, we will fly to one of these airports and then take a ferry to Livadia, the main port of Tilos.

Once in Livadia, we have several options to reach Playa de Plaka. We always recommend renting a small car or a scooter, as this gives us the freedom to explore the entire island at our own pace. The road to Plaka is not fully paved and can be a bit rough in some sections, adding a touch of exploration. If you opt for a car, make sure it is suitable for rural roads. The beach is located on the east coast of the island, north of Livadia, and the journey will gift us with spectacular panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the mountainous landscape of Tilos.

Another alternative, for the more adventurous and hiking lovers, is to walk there. From Livadia, there are hiking trails that lead to several beaches, including Plaka. However, this path can be long and require good physical condition, especially under the Greek sun. It is essential to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and appropriate footwear. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, some local taxis in Livadia might take us, although it is important to agree on the price in advance and ask if the vehicle is suitable for the road. The Aegean Sea here is of astonishing transparency, with hues ranging from a light turquoise blue at the shore to a deep indigo further out. The underwater visibility is exceptional, making it an ideal place for swimming and, if we bring our own equipment, for snorkeling and observing the modest marine life. The waters are usually calm and crystal clear, somewhat protected by the shape of the bay, making them very inviting for a refreshing dip at any time of the day. The water temperature is pleasantly warm during the summer months, prolonging the feeling of well-being and relaxation offered by this paradisiacal corner.

Services and Facilities

It is important for us, as visitors, to have a clear expectation about the services at Playa de Plaka. Unlike more touristy and organized beaches, Plaka is a pristine example of a 'wild' and natural beach. This means the beach does not have developed tourist infrastructure. You will not find chiringuitos with loud music, nor endless rows of rental umbrellas and sunbeds, nor lifeguards watching the coast, nor showers to rinse off the salt, nor public toilets.

This absence of services is, in fact, one of the biggest attractions for those seeking an authentic and unpretentious experience. We value it precisely for its virginity and the freedom it offers. The only 'service' we could mention is an informal dirt Parking area near the beach, where vehicles can park free of charge. It is essential that visitors prepare adequately before coming: they must bring everything they need for their day at the beach. This includes plenty of drinking water, snacks or a picnic, an umbrella, towels, sunscreen, a good book, and any equipment for water activities.
