Upon arrival, we are immediately captivated by its stunning turquoise blue waters and its soft, golden sand, inviting us to relax and forget the outside world. How to Get to Playa de Astris

Getting to Playa de Astris is a simple and pleasant part of our adventure in Thassos. The beach is located on the main coastal road that runs along the southern part of the island, making access easy. If we are coming from Potos, one of the most popular resorts, the journey is just about ten minutes by car, heading east. From Limenaria, another key point, the trip is similar in duration and distance. The signage is quite clear, and it's hard to get lost.

For us, the most comfortable way to explore Thassos and reach beaches like Astris is to rent a car or a scooter in Limenas (the capital), Potos, or Limenaria. This gives us the freedom to move at our own pace and discover hidden coves along the way. There are also public bus options that run along the coast, although the frequency may be lower outside the high season. If we choose the bus, we must get off at the stop closest to the village of Astris and walk a short distance to the beach. The parking at Playa de Astris itself is informal, usually along the road or in small adjacent clearings near the tavernas, which is very convenient for us.

The Sand and Water

What immediately impresses us about Playa de Astris is the quality of its sand and the clarity of its waters. We find ourselves on a beach of fine sand, soft to the touch and of a pale golden color that contrasts wonderfully with the deep blue of the sea. Walking barefoot along the shore is a delight, feeling the warmth of the sand under our feet. This characteristic makes it especially pleasant for the little ones, who can play and build sandcastles without worrying about stones or pebbles.

The water at Astris is simply spectacular: crystal clear, with an astonishing transparency that allows us to see the seabed even at some depth. Furthermore, it is usually very calm, with hardly any waves, making it a perfect natural pool for swimming and relaxing. The access to the sea is gradual and shallow, which adds an extra level of safety and comfort, especially for children and for those who don't feel very confident in the water. The water temperature during the summer months is ideally warm, inviting long swims and full enjoyment of the Aegean. It is, without a doubt, one of the most pleasant beaches for a swim in Thassos.

Services and Facilities

Although Playa de Astris is characterized by its tranquil and less developed atmosphere, it does not lack the essential services that we appreciate for a comfortable day at the beach. Along the shore, we will find areas where it is possible to rent sunbeds and umbrellas, allowing us to enjoy shade and comfort throughout the day. These are usually managed by the small tavernas or chiringuitos located right behind the beach.

These chiringuitos are true treasures. They not only offer us refreshments, coffees, and ice creams, but they also function as small restaurants where we can taste delicious local cuisine. Imagine enjoying fresh grilled fish or a Greek salad with the sound of the waves in the background; it's an experience that we value immensely. Furthermore, these establishments usually have showers to rinse off the salt and sand after swimming, as well as clean and well-maintained bathrooms/WCs, a detail that is always appreciated. The parking, as mentioned, is informal but generally sufficient, with space to leave our vehicles near the beach, making access with all our beach gear easy.

Best Time to Visit

For us, choosing the right time to visit Playa de Astris is crucial to fully enjoy its charm. The high season in Thassos, as in most beaches in Greece, spans the months of July and August. During this period, the weather is glorious, with long, sunny days and ideal temperatures for the beach. However, it is also when the island receives the highest number of visitors, and although Astris is quieter than others, there can be more people.

Our personal recommendation for experiencing Playa de Astris in its maximum splendor of serenity is to plan our visit in the months of June or early September. In June, the sea is already warm enough for comfortable swimming, the days are long, and the influx of tourists is notably lower. This allows us to enjoy the beach with more space and an even more relaxed atmosphere.
