How to Get to Playa de Mega Ammos

Getting to Playa de Mega Ammos is relatively straightforward, which contributes to its popularity. Located just a few kilometers south of the picturesque village of Syvota, on the Epirus coast, the road leading to it is well-signposted and in good condition.

By Car

If you're traveling by car, which is the most comfortable way to explore the region, simply follow the signs from Syvota. The journey is short, about 5 to 10 minutes, and offers charming views of the coastal landscape. Once at the beach, you'll find ample parking areas, both free and paid, managed by local beach bars, which greatly facilitates access. We recommend arriving early in the high season to secure a good spot.

Public Transport or Taxi

Although there is no regular bus service directly to the beach, it is possible to take a taxi from Syvota. It's a practical option if you prefer not to drive or if you want to enjoy the local cuisine without worrying about parking. Some accommodations in Syvota also offer transfers for their guests.

The Beach and the Water

The first thing that catches our attention upon arriving at Playa de Mega Ammos is its peculiar composition. Unlike many fine-sand beaches, here the ground is covered with polished pebbles and small stones. This gives it a unique texture, and while it may feel a bit different at first, we quickly get used to its gentle massage underfoot. The advantage of pebbles is that they keep the water exceptionally clear, without the turbidity that fine sand sometimes causes.

The waters of Mega Ammos are, without exaggeration, spectacular. Their transparency is astonishing, allowing us to see the seabed with perfect clarity even at several meters depth. The color ranges from an intense blue to a crystal-clear green, inviting us to dive in immediately. The waters are calm, protected from strong currents, making them ideal for swimming and for children to play safely. The sea temperature is pleasantly warm during the summer months, offering a refreshing relief from the Greek sun.

• Showers and Toilets/WC: We find shower facilities to rinse off the salt and sand after swimming, as well as clean and well-maintained toilets/WC, a detail that is always appreciated.
• Lifeguard Service: During the high season, the beach has a lifeguard service, which adds an extra layer of safety for all bathers, especially for families with children.
• Parking: As already mentioned, there are ample parking areas available, making access easy for those arriving by car.
• Equipment Rental: Some establishments offer equipment rental for light water sports, such as paddle surfing or kayaks, allowing us to explore the coast from a different perspective.

Summer (July and August)

The months of July and August constitute the peak season par excellence. The weather is warm and sunny, with temperatures constantly inviting for a swim. This is when the beach is at its peak, with all services operational and a lively, social atmosphere. However, it is also the time of highest attendance, which means the beach can be quite crowded and accommodation and service prices may be higher. If you like the hustle and bustle and energy of the Mediterranean summer, this is your time.

Spring and Autumn (May, June and September)

For us, spring (May and early June) and autumn (September) are the ideal times to visit the Syvota (Epirus) beach. The weather is still excellent, with sunny days and pleasant temperatures, but the influx of tourists is considerably lower.
