How to Get to Playa de Nos

Getting to Playa de Nos is part of the experience and, fortunately, it is quite simple. If we are in Symi's main port, Gialos, we have several options. The most popular and charming is, without a doubt, a pleasant walk. From the center of Gialos, we just need to follow the coastal road heading north. It is a flat and picturesque path that gifts us with spectacular views of the port and its colorful neoclassical houses. In about 15 to 20 minutes on foot, we will be stepping on the pebbles of Nos. It is an ideal walk to enjoy the landscape and feel the sea breeze.

For those who prefer a faster option or if the heat is intense, we can also opt for a taxi or a local bus. Taxis are easily accessible at the port and will drop us off right at the entrance to the beach in a matter of minutes. The local bus, with stops in Gialos, is also an economical and efficient alternative, although it is advisable to check the schedules, especially outside of high season. Whatever our choice, the path to Playa de Nos is the perfect prelude to the paradise that awaits us.

The Sand and the Water

When talking about Playa de Nos, we must clarify that we will not find the typical fine, golden sand that many are used to. Here, the ground is mainly composed of medium-sized pebbles, polished by the constant ebb and flow of the waves. These pebbles, in gray and ochre tones, offer a unique texture under our feet and, although they may seem a bit unusual at first, we will soon discover their charm. Furthermore, they have the advantage of not sticking to the skin or clothes like sand, making cleanup easier at the end of the day. It is advisable to wear water shoes if our feet are sensitive, although many prefer to feel the gentle pressure of the stones.

But if the pebbles are distinctive, the true star of Playa de Nos is its waters. What waters! They are so transparent that we can see the seabed with astonishing clarity, even at several meters deep. The color varies from an emerald green near the shore to a deep blue in the open sea, creating a hypnotic visual spectacle. Despite its relatively modest size, Playa de Nos is very well equipped to ensure a comfortable and pleasant experience for all its visitors. It is not a wild beach, but an organized cove that thinks of our well-being. To start, the beach has a good number of sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent, allowing us to relax in the shade and enjoy the sun without worries. It is advisable to arrive early in high season to secure a good spot, as the beach is quite popular.

One of the most appreciated services is the presence of a charming chiringuito, or rather, a traditional Greek taverna right on the shore: the 'Nos Beach Taverna'. Here we can enjoy delicious local dishes, from fresh seafood to Greek salads, all with unbeatable views of the sea. It is also the perfect place for a soft drink, an iced coffee, or a cold beer to beat the heat. In addition to food and drink, the taverna usually offers clean bathrooms/WC and showers to wash off the salt and sand before returning to our accommodation. As for parking, although it is not very large, there is usually enough space for the cars that come to the beach, which facilitates access if we choose this means of transport.
