How to Get to Playa de Magazia

Getting to Playa de Magazia is an adventure in itself, part of the charm of visiting an island like Skyros. The most common way to reach Skyros is by ferry from Kymi, on the island of Euboea. We took the 'Achilleas' ferry, which offers several daily connections, especially during the high season. The ferry ride is a pleasant experience, with spectacular views of the Aegean, and allows us to prepare our spirits for the island's tranquility. Once at the port of Linaria, in Skyros, we have several options to get to Magazia.

From Linaria Port

From Linaria port, the distance to the Chora and, therefore, to Magazia, is approximately 10-12 kilometers. We opted for a taxi, which took us directly to our accommodation near the beach in about 15-20 minutes. There are also local buses connecting Linaria with the Chora, and from there, the beach is a short walk away. If we prefer more freedom to explore the island, renting a car or a scooter in Linaria is an excellent option. There are several rental agencies at the port offering vehicles at reasonable prices, allowing us to move at our own pace and discover every corner of Skyros, including other less crowded Skyros beaches.

From the Chora of Skyros

One of the great advantages of Playa de Magazia is its proximity to the Chora, the island's capital. In fact, Magazia is considered the main beach of the Chora. From the center of the town, we can reach the beach on foot in just 5-10 minutes. The path is a pleasant descent through winding streets, flanked by the traditional white houses of Skyros, making the journey a picturesque walk. This closeness allows us to enjoy the beach during the day and, at sunset, go up to the Chora for dinner or a drink, without the need for additional transport. It's a convenience we greatly appreciate, as it allows us to maximize our time for enjoyment and relaxation in this beautiful corner of Greece.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Magazia welcomes us with a stretch of fine, golden sand that invites us to walk barefoot and lay our towel under the warm Greek sun. The softness of the sand is a pleasure for the feet, and its light color contrasts wonderfully with the intense blue of the sea. Unlike some rocky beaches, here the type of ground is predominantly sand, which facilitates access to the water and makes the experience more comfortable for everyone, especially for children or those who prefer to avoid stones.

The waters of Magazia are, without exaggeration, spectacular. Their transparency and clarity are impressive, allowing us to see the seabed even several meters deep. The color of the sea varies from a bright turquoise near the shore to a deep blue further out, creating a captivating visual spectacle. We find generally calm waters, somewhat protected by the shape of the bay, making them ideal for swimming, floating, and enjoying a refreshing dip. The water temperature, especially during the summer months, is pleasantly warm, inviting us to spend hours submerged, forgetting about time and worries. The purity and cleanliness of these waters are, without a doubt, one of the greatest attractions of this Skyros beach.

Along most of the beach, we find areas with sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent. This is ideal for those looking for a comfortable spot to relax, get some shade, and enjoy the sea breeze. The umbrellas are usually well-spaced, providing a sense of privacy. Furthermore, there are showers conveniently located to rinse off the salt after a swim, a detail we always value.
