How to Get to Playa de Livadakia

The island of Serifos is mainly accessible by ferry from Piraeus port in Athens, with several daily connections, especially during the high season. Once we disembark at Livadi port, Playa de Livadakia is a short distance away, meaning we can reach it on foot in about 5-10 minutes, depending on our pace and the exact location of our accommodation in Livadi. This proximity to the port is a big plus, as we won't have to worry about long transfers.

If we prefer not to walk, we can take a taxi from the port, although the distance is so short that it's often unnecessary. During the summer months, there are also local bus services connecting Livadi with other parts of the island, and although Livadakia is practically 'on the doorstep', the bus could be useful if we are coming from other localities in Serifos. Renting a scooter or a car is always an option for exploring the island with greater freedom, and we will find several rental agencies in Livadi.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Livadakia wins us over from the first moment with its fine, golden sand, which gently slopes into the sea. It's the kind of sand that invites you to take off your shoes and feel every grain between your toes, perfect for building sandcastles with the little ones or simply for lying down and relaxing. The absence of pebbles or rocks on the shore makes it very comfortable for walking and for entering the water.

But if there's one thing that truly captivates us about Livadakia, it's its crystal-clear waters of an intense turquoise color. The transparency is such that we can easily see the seabed, even several meters deep. The waters are calm, protected from the prevailing winds, making them an ideal natural pool for swimming and splashing. The entry into the sea is very gradual and shallow, making it exceptionally safe for young children and for those who don't feel very comfortable in deep water. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is delightful and refreshing, perfect for combating the Greek heat.

Furthermore, the influx of tourists is lower, allowing us to enjoy the beach more peacefully and find better prices on accommodation and flights.

July and August are the peak season months, and while the atmosphere is more vibrant and all services are in full swing, the beach can be more crowded. If our only option is to travel in August, we recommend going early in the morning to secure a good spot and enjoy the serenity before most people arrive. In general, Greek beaches are wonderful at any time during the summer, but the experience at Livadakia is more pleasant in the less saturated months.
