Located on the southeast coast of the island, Perivolos is essentially the natural continuation of the famous Perissa beach, stretching with the same black volcanic sand that gives it such a distinctive and memorable character. Upon arrival, the first thing that strikes us is the contrast: the intense blue of the Aegean Sea against the deep black of the sand, a visual spectacle that only Santorini can offer.

This beach is not just a place to sunbathe; it's a destination in itself. With considerable length, it offers plenty of space for everyone, from families with young children to groups of friends looking for fun and water sports. What really sets it apart is its cosmopolitan atmosphere and excellent services. Here, days are spent swimming in incredibly transparent waters, enjoying delicious meals at trendy beach bars, and trying a wide range of activities. How to Get to Playa de Perivolos

Getting to Playa de Perivolos is relatively straightforward, no matter where you're staying in Santorini. The island, although mountainous on its western side, has a fairly good road network connecting the main points of interest. We've always found that the best way to explore is with freedom, so renting a car, a motorbike, or even a quad is an excellent option. From Fira, the capital, the journey takes about 20-25 minutes by car, covering a distance of about 12-15 kilometers. The route is well signposted and takes you through the island's interior, offering interesting views of Santorini's rural landscape.

Transportation Options

• Rental Car: This is the most comfortable option if you're traveling with family or a lot of luggage. It allows you to explore the island at your own pace and easily visit other nearby beaches or villages. Parking is available at the beach, often managed by the beach bars themselves, making it easy to find a spot.
• Motorbike or Quad: For the more adventurous, renting a motorbike or quad is an exciting way to get around Santorini. It's ideal for couples or solo travelers and offers greater agility to navigate traffic during high season. However, always exercise caution, especially on winding roads.
• Public Bus: Santorini has an efficient public bus system operated by KTEL. There are regular routes connecting Fira with Perissa and, by extension, Perivolos. The buses are comfortable and an economical option. The journey from Fira takes about 30 minutes and schedules are usually frequent, especially during the day. The nearest bus stop will leave you a short walk from the beach.
• Taxi or Private Transfer: If you're looking for maximum comfort, especially if you're arriving directly from the airport or port, you can opt for a taxi or book a private transfer. It's the most expensive option, but it takes you directly to your destination without worries.

The Sand and Water

One of the most unique and distinctive features of Playa de Perivolos is its sand. Don't expect the typical golden or white sand beaches of the Caribbean; here, Santorini's volcanic nature manifests in an intense black sand, mixed with small dark pebbles. It's a different sensory experience. The sand, being dark, tends to get quite hot under the midday sun, so we recommend wearing sandals or flip-flops to walk along the shore. However, this color gives it an exotic and photogenic character like no other, especially when contrasted with the white of the umbrellas and the turquoise of the sea.

The waters of Perivolos are, in a word, spectacular. They are crystal-clear, incredibly clean, and of a deep blue color that invites you to swim from the first moment. The entry into the sea is gradual, making it very safe, especially for families with children. There are no strong currents or big waves, thanks to the island's natural protection. The water temperature is pleasantly warm during the summer months, perfect for cooling off and swimming for hours. We've spent countless afternoons floating in its waters, enjoying the calm and transparency that allows you to easily see the seabed, even without snorkeling gear.

From the moment we set foot on the sand, we notice that everything is designed for the visitor's comfort. The numerous beach bars and beach clubs are the soul of Perivolos, offering not only food and drink but also the rental of high-quality sunbeds and umbrellas, often with service directly on the sand. Some even feature sofas and Balinese beds for a more luxurious experience.
