How to Get to Playa de Perissa

Getting to Playa de Perissa is relatively straightforward, and the transportation options are varied, allowing us to choose the one that best suits our travel style and budget. The beach is located about 15 kilometers southeast of Fira, Santorini's capital.

By Bus

The most common and economical way to get there is by using Santorini's efficient public bus system (KTEL). There are regular connections from Fira to Perissa. The buses are modern and air-conditioned, and the journey usually takes about 25-30 minutes. It's an option we recommend if we want to avoid the stress of driving and parking, and it allows us to enjoy the scenery along the way. The bus stops are conveniently located along the beach.

By Rental Car or Motorbike

For those who prefer the freedom to explore the island at their own pace, renting a car or motorbike is an excellent option. There are numerous rental agencies in Santorini, both at the airport and in Fira and other villages. The road to Perissa is well-signposted and in good condition. Finding parking in Perissa is relatively easy, as there are designated areas along the beach and in the streets adjacent to the restaurants and chiringuitos. Riding a motorbike or quad is a very popular experience on the island and allows us to feel the breeze as we head to the beach.

By Taxi or Private Transfer

If we're looking for comfort and speed, a taxi or private transfer is the best alternative. We can find them at the airport, Athinios port, or any major tourist point. Although it's the most expensive option, it ensures a direct and hassle-free trip right to the shore of Playa de Perissa, ideal if we're traveling with a lot of luggage or with small children.

The Sand and Water

The most distinctive and fascinating feature of Playa de Perissa is, without a doubt, its sand. Unlike the golden beaches we might find in other destinations, here we encounter volcanic sand of an intense black, almost jet-black color. This geological peculiarity not only gives it a dramatic and photogenic appearance but also has some interesting properties. The sand is of the 'coarse' type, composed of small pebbles polished by the sea and time, which means it doesn't stick to the skin as much as fine sand, making it easier to clean off after a day at the beach.
