How to Get to Playa de Katharos

We recommend several transport options, each with its own charm and convenience, so that every traveler can choose the one that best suits their preferences and travel pace.

From Oia

If we are in Oia, we can reach Playa de Katharos in several ways. The most picturesque and healthy option is, without a doubt, walking. It is a walk of approximately 20-30 minutes that takes us along a path that, although in some sections can be a bit steep, rewards us with spectacular views of the sea and the volcanic landscape. It is a walk that allows us to appreciate the transition from the bustle of Oia to the tranquility of the beach, feeling the sea air and enjoying the beauty of the surroundings. For those who prefer a faster option or if the heat is intense, a taxi from Oia is a comfortable and efficient alternative, with a journey that will last no more than 5-10 minutes.

By Car or Scooter

Renting a car or a scooter is, for us, the most flexible way to explore Santorini and, therefore, to get to Playa de Katharos. From Fira, the island's capital, the journey by car or scooter to Katharos will take us approximately 25-30 minutes, following the main road towards Oia. There are signs, although discreet, that will guide us to the beach. Once nearby, we will find a parking area, usually free of charge, but with limited space, especially during the high season. It is advisable to arrive early if we plan to visit in the summer months to secure a good spot. The road descending to the beach can be a bit narrow and winding, so it is important to drive carefully and enjoy the road with its panoramic views.

Public Transport

Public transport in Santorini is efficient for connecting the main villages, but it does not go directly to Playa de Katharos. We could take a bus from Fira to Oia, and from there, opt for the walk or a taxi. However, for comfort and the freedom to explore at our own pace, especially if we want to visit other Greece beaches or points of interest on the island, we always lean towards renting a private vehicle. This allows us the flexibility to arrive and leave when we want, without depending on fixed schedules and with the possibility of discovering unexpected corners.
