For us, it's an ideal place to immerse yourself in local life and enjoy the Aegean waters with the comfort of having all services close at hand.

When we think of Greek beaches, images of golden sand and turquoise waters often come to mind. Playa de Karlovasi surprises us with its extensive stretch of pebbles, a distinctive feature that gives it a unique personality. How to Get to Playa de Karlovasi

Getting to Playa de Karlovasi is relatively straightforward, especially if we are already on the island of Samos. The city of Karlovasi is an important transport hub. If we fly to Samos, we will land at Samos International Airport 'Aristarchos' (SMI), located near Vathy, the capital. From there, we can take a taxi or rent a car, which will take approximately 45-60 minutes to Karlovasi. It's a picturesque route that passes through mountainous and coastal landscapes, offering us a first glimpse of the island's beauty.

From the Airport and Other Cities

• Rental Car: This is our preferred option for exploring Samos with complete freedom. The airport has several rental agencies. The journey to Karlovasi is direct and well-signposted.
• Bus: There is a public bus network (KTEL Samos) connecting Karlovasi with Vathy and other towns. Schedules can be limited, especially outside the high season, so we recommend checking them in advance.
• Taxi: It's always a comfortable option, though more expensive. Taxis are available at the airport and in the main urban centers.
• Ferry: Karlovasi is a major port with connections to other Aegean islands and the Greek mainland. If we arrive in Samos by ferry, we will likely disembark directly in Karlovasi, and the beach will be within walking distance or a short taxi ride away.

The Sand and Water

The most distinctive feature of Playa de Karlovasi is, without a doubt, its type of ground: mostly pebble. Let's not expect to find the typical fine, golden sand we sometimes associate with Greek beaches. Here, the pebbles, polished by the waves, create a natural and somewhat rustic bed. This has its advantages: the water tends to be incredibly clear, as there is no sand to cloud the bottom. We advise bringing water shoes or sandals for greater comfort when walking and entering the sea, especially if we have sensitive feet.

The waters of Playa de Karlovasi are a true delight. Belonging to the Aegean Sea, they are generally calm, cool, and of a deep blue tone that invites a swim. The entry into the sea is usually gradual, making it safe for swimmers of all ages. • Showers and Toilets/WC: It's common to find public showers to rinse off the salt after a swim, as well as well-maintained toilets nearby or in the dining establishments.
• Parking: Given the proximity to the city, there are designated parking areas, which facilitates access if we arrive by car.
• Lifeguards: During the high season, it's common to have lifeguards present, adding an extra layer of safety to our swims.
