Introduction
If there's a place on the island of Rhodes that embodies the essence of Mediterranean tranquility without sacrificing beauty and comfort, that is undoubtedly Vlycha Beach. Located a short distance from the iconic village of Lindos, this beach is a true paradise for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle and immerse themselves in an environment of peace and serenity. From the moment we set foot on its sand, we are greeted by an atmosphere that invites deep relaxation, promising unforgettable days under the Greek sun.
Vlycha Beach stands out for its long stretch of golden sand and its turquoise waters, incredibly clear and shallow, making it a favorite destination for families with young children. Here, nature blends harmoniously with organization, offering all the necessary services for a comfortable stay without losing its natural charm. It's the perfect setting for building sandcastles, enjoying a refreshing swim, or simply delighting in the panoramic views of the bay, framed by gentle hills covered in vegetation. We love how this beach achieves a perfect balance between being a well-equipped place and, at the same time, maintaining a feeling of space and calm, something increasingly difficult to find in the more popular Rhodes beaches.
How to Get to Vlycha Beach
Getting to Vlycha Beach is relatively easy, and the options vary depending on our starting point and preferences. Its proximity to Lindos, one of the most visited destinations in Rhodes, greatly facilitates access.
From Rhodes Town
- By car or scooter: This is the most comfortable and flexible option. From Rhodes Town, the journey takes about an hour, following the main road south towards Lindos. There are clear signs for Vlycha just before reaching Lindos. The beach has parking areas that, although they can fill up in high season, are usually sufficient. We rented a car, and the freedom to explore other Greece beaches and corners of the island at our own pace was priceless.
- By bus: There are regular KTEL Rhodes buses from the Rhodes Town terminal to Lindos. Once in Lindos, we can take a local taxi or walk about 15-20 minutes downhill to Vlycha. It's a more economical option, but involves a little extra effort.
From Lindos
- By taxi: The quickest and easiest way from Lindos. The journey is very short, just a few minutes.
- Walking: If we're feeling energetic, we can walk from Lindos. The path is downhill and offers spectacular views of the bay and the Acropolis of Lindos, although the return trip can be a bit more demanding under the sun. We always recommend wearing comfortable shoes if we choose this route.
The Sand and Water
Vlycha Beach captivates us from the first moment with its distinctive sand. It's a fine and golden sand, incredibly soft to the touch, inviting us to walk barefoot and lay out a towel to enjoy hours of sun. Unlike other beaches on the island that can be rockier, the type of ground here is predominantly sand, making it exceptionally comfortable for both adults and the little ones, who can play and build their castles without worrying about rocks.
But if the sand is a delight, the water at Vlycha is simply spectacular. Its shades range from a pale turquoise near the shore to a deep blue further out, reflecting the purity and clarity of the Mediterranean. The waters are incredibly crystal-clear, allowing us to see the seabed easily, even several meters deep. Furthermore, they are notably warm and, crucially for many families, very shallow at the shore, gently extending out to sea. This creates a kind of giant natural pool, perfect for children to splash safely and for adults to enjoy a relaxing swim without worries. We noticed we could walk quite far out before the water covered us completely, which is a great advantage for everyone's safety and fun. The feeling of floating in these calm waters is pure happiness, one of the reasons we consider Vlycha one of the best Rhodes beaches for relaxation.
