How to Get to Playa de Agathi

Getting to Playa de Agathi is relatively straightforward, although it requires a small detour from the main roads, which adds to its 'hidden treasure' charm. It is located on the east coast of Rhodes, about 38 kilometers southeast of Rhodes Town and a short distance from the historic village of Haraki and Feraklos Castle. For those traveling from the capital, the drive takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic and the chosen route. We always recommend renting a car on the island, as it offers the freedom to explore at your own pace and discover less accessible coves and villages.

By Car

If we choose to drive, the most common route is to take the main road heading south along the east coast. Once we pass Kolymbia and Archangelos, we look for signs towards Haraki or Playa de Agathi itself. There is clear signage that will guide us along a slightly narrow but well-maintained paved road to the beach parking lot. The parking is spacious and free, which is a great advantage in high season. The road winds a bit, offering panoramic views before gently descending towards the cove.

Public Transport

Public transport in Rhodes is reliable, but it won't leave us directly on the sand of Agathi. We can take a bus from Rhodes Town to Archangelos or Haraki. From there, we would need to take a taxi or, if we're adventurous, walk for about 20-30 minutes, although under the summer sun this can be demanding. For greater comfort, a car or a direct taxi are the best options to reach this Rhodes beach.

The Sand and Water

We have spent hours simply floating and enjoying the peace offered by this aquatic environment. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is warm and pleasant, prolonging swimming sessions and making Playa de Agathi a perfect refuge from the heat.

• Sunbeds and umbrellas: There is an abundance of straw umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds available for rent. Although they are not free, the price is usually reasonable and they are essential for protection from the intense Greek sun, especially during the midday hours. We always recommend arriving early to secure a good spot, particularly in high season.
• Chiringuitos and restaurants: Along the beach, you will find several 'chiringuitos' (tavernas or cantinas) offering a wide variety of options. Here you can enjoy refreshing drinks, coffees, ice creams, and a selection of light meals like sandwiches, Greek salads, and some traditional dishes.
