How to Get to Kastrosykia Beach

Getting to Kastrosykia Beach is relatively straightforward and is part of the adventure of exploring the Epirus region. We always recommend renting a car, as it gives us the freedom to move at our own pace and discover hidden corners. From the city of Preveza, the beach is located about 15-20 kilometers northwest, a journey that takes approximately 20-25 minutes along a well-signposted and well-maintained coastal road. The route offers panoramic views of the Ionian Sea, which are a perfect prelude to what awaits us.

From the Airport

The nearest airport is Aktion National Airport (PVK), also known as Preveza/Lefkada Airport. From there, Kastrosykia Beach is about 25-30 kilometers away. We can take a taxi directly or, as mentioned, pick up a rental car at the airport. There are several car rental companies present at PVK, which greatly facilitates logistics. The journey from the airport is equally scenic and immerses us fully in the beauty of the region.

Public Transport

Although a car is the most comfortable option, there are also local bus services connecting Preveza with nearby towns and beaches. However, frequencies can be limited, especially outside the high season. If we opt for public transport, it is advisable to check the schedules in advance at the Preveza bus station (KTEL Prevezas). For us, the flexibility offered by having our own vehicle is unbeatable, especially if we plan to explore the surroundings of Kastrosykia Beach.

The Sand and Water

The distinctive feature of Kastrosykia Beach is its particular combination of sand and small pebbles. We would classify it as a 'mixed' type beach, where fine sand mixes with small stones polished by the sea. This combination is very pleasant underfoot and gives it a natural charm. It's not purely fine sand, but it's not a beach of large pebbles either, making it comfortable for walking and lounging.

Water Clarity and Temperature

The waters of Kastrosykia Beach are, without exaggeration, spectacular. Their transparency is such that we can easily see the seabed, even at several meters depth. This is due to the absence of strong currents and the constant cleanliness maintained in the area, which is why it has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag. The water temperature, especially during the summer months (June to September), is warm and very pleasant, ideal for a refreshing swim or for spending hours floating without feeling cold. Children, in particular, greatly enjoy the initial shallow depth and the calm of its waters, making it one of the best Preveza (Epirus) beaches for them.

• Sun Umbrellas and Sun Loungers: Along much of the beach, we find organized areas with sun umbrellas and sun loungers that we can rent for a modest price. This is ideal for sunny days, as it allows us to relax without having to carry our own equipment.
• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Several chiringuitos and tavernas line the back of the beach, offering everything from refreshing drinks and light snacks to full meals. It's the perfect place to enjoy a Greek coffee in the morning or a dinner with sunset views. The local gastronomy is excellent and the experience of eating by the sea is unbeatable.
• Parking: There are ample parking areas available, both free and paid in some more organized areas, which facilitates access if we arrive by car. We have never had problems finding a spot, even in high season.
• Showers and Toilets/WCs: The presence of showers allows us to wash off the salt and sand before returning home or to our accommodation. The public toilets, generally well-maintained, are an essential service we always appreciate.
• Lifeguards: During the peak summer season, the beach has lifeguard posts that watch over the safety of swimmers. This adds an extra layer of peace of mind, especially if we are traveling with children.
