Introduction
From the moment we set foot on Playa de Faragas in Paros, Greece, we feel we've discovered a true treasure of the Aegean. It's one of those beaches that, although organized, retains an undeniable natural charm, inviting us to immerse ourselves in its turquoise waters and forget the daily hustle and bustle. Located on the south coast of the island, Faragas stands out for its serene atmosphere and incredibly calm waters, protected from the prevailing winds, making it a perfect refuge for all types of travelers, especially families with young children.
What captivates us most about Playa de Faragas is its versatility. On one hand, it offers the peace and quiet we seek to disconnect, with wide areas where we can spread out our towel and enjoy the sun. Furthermore, it boasts excellent services that guarantee a comfortable and worry-free beach day. From the soft golden sand to the transparency of its waters, every detail of Faragas seems designed for our maximum relaxation and enjoyment. It is, without a doubt, one of the beaches of Paros we recommend visiting thoroughly, dedicating at least a full day to savor everything it has to offer.
How to Get to Playa de Faragas
Getting to Playa de Faragas is relatively straightforward, though it requires a bit of planning depending on where we are staying in Paros. The island is well-connected and offers several transport options to reach this idyllic spot.
By Rental Car or Motorbike
This is, in our opinion, the most comfortable and flexible way to get there. From Parikia, the capital and main port of Paros, the journey takes approximately 25-30 minutes. From Naoussa, the trip is similar, perhaps a bit longer, about 30-35 minutes. The roads are in good condition and well-signposted. Once we approach the beach, we will find a large and mostly free parking area, which is a great advantage, especially during the high season. Renting a car or motorbike allows us to explore the island at our own pace and easily discover other nearby coves and villages.
By Bus
The KTEL bus system of Paros is quite efficient and connects the main towns. However, there is no direct line that drops us right on the sand of Faragas. Generally, we will need to take a bus from Parikia or Naoussa heading to Aliki, a picturesque fishing village. From Aliki, Playa de Faragas is about 3-4 kilometers away. We can opt for a taxi from Aliki, walk (if the heat isn't excessive and we feel like a stroll), or, if we have rented a quad or scooter, continue with our own vehicle. It's important to check the bus schedules, as they can vary depending on the season.
By Taxi
For those who prefer comfort without the worry of driving, a taxi is an excellent option. We can take one from Parikia or Naoussa directly to the beach. The cost will be higher than the bus or a rental, but the convenience is undeniable, especially if we are traveling in a group and can split the expenses. Taxis are usually available at the ports and main squares of the towns.
The Sand and Water
Playa de Faragas is a true delight for the senses, and its sand and water are, without a doubt, two of its greatest attractions. As we approach, the first thing we notice is the soft golden hue of its sand, inviting us to walk barefoot and feel its fine texture under our feet. It's not coarse or pebbly sand, but sand that slips easily, perfect for building sandcastles or simply for spreading out our towel and enjoying the warmth of the sun.
The waters of Faragas are simply spectacular. Their transparency is astonishing, allowing us to see the seabed with crystal clarity, almost as if we were in a natural pool. The color palette ranges from a pale sky blue at the shore to a deeper turquoise as we go further in. One of the most appreciated characteristics of this beach is its tranquility. Thanks to its sheltered location, the waves are minimal, and the sea remains calm most of the time, making it an exceptionally safe and pleasant place to swim, even for the little ones. The entry into the sea is gentle and gradual, without sudden drops, which adds an extra layer of safety for children and for those who are not experienced swimmers. The water temperature during the summer months is delightful, refreshing but warm, perfect for a long dip and forgetting the summer heat. It's a place where time seems to stand still, and the combination of fine sand and serene waters gives us a beach experience we will remember fondly. It's easy to understand why many consider it one of the best beaches of Paros for relaxation and family enjoyment.
