How to Get to Playa de Lichnos

Getting to Playa de Lichnos is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it is quite accessible. If you are in Parga, the most common and picturesque option is to take a water taxi from Parga's port. These small boats operate regularly during the high season and offer spectacular views of the coast as you approach the bay. It is an experience we always recommend, as it allows you to appreciate the magnificence of the landscape from the sea.

For those who prefer the road, Lichnos is about 4-5 kilometers from Parga. You can get there by car, motorbike, or even by bicycle if you feel energetic. The road that winds through the hills is well-paved and offers impressive panoramic views at every turn. There is parking available near the beach, although during the peak season months (July and August) it can fill up quickly, so we advise arriving early. There are also local buses connecting Parga with Lichnos, offering an economical and comfortable alternative. We personally enjoy the drive to be able to stop at the viewpoints and capture some spectacular photographs of the Ionian coast.

The Sand and Water

The first thing that catches our attention when stepping onto Playa de Lichnos is its unique composition. It is not the typical fine, golden sand we often imagine, but a charming mix of sand and small pebbles, or as we say, mixed sand. This combination gives it a particular texture and a special shine under the sun. The pebbles are smooth and rounded, making walking comfortable, and they have the advantage of not sticking as much as fine sand. For some, this characteristic is even preferable, as the water remains incredibly clear and free of suspended particles.

And speaking of the water, this is where Lichnos truly shines. Its waters are of astonishing transparency, with hues ranging from the deepest blue to a vibrant emerald green near the shore. The sea temperature is ideal during the summer months, warm and refreshing at the same time, perfect for a prolonged swim. Furthermore, the bay is well-protected, which means the waves are usually gentle and calm, creating a safe and pleasant environment for swimming, even for the little ones. The water quality is so exceptional that the beach proudly flies the Blue Flag, a distinction that certifies its environmental excellence and water cleanliness. We have enjoyed hours submerged in these waters, exploring its corners and simply floating, feeling the sea breeze.

We always appreciate this comfort, especially on the hottest days. Additionally, along the shore, there are several chiringuitos and restaurants serving everything from refreshing drinks and light snacks to delicious traditional Greek meals. Imagine savoring fresh grilled fish with views of the Ionian Sea... a true delight! There are also showers and bathrooms/WCs available, which is essential for staying fresh and comfortable throughout the day.

For our peace of mind, Playa de Lichnos has lifeguard service during the high season, which adds an extra layer of safety, especially if traveling with children. And for the more active, there are equipment rental centers for water sports, where you can find everything from kayaks and paddleboards to equipment for water skiing or parasailing. The parking is another very useful service for those arriving by car. Based on our experience, we always advise choosing the right time to visit any destination, and Playa de Lichnos is no exception. For us, the best time to fully enjoy this wonderful beach is during late spring (late May and June)
