How to Get to Playa de Glyfada

Getting to Playa de Glyfada is relatively straightforward, although the most comfortable way to do so will depend on your preferences and where you are staying in Naxos. From the capital, Naxos Town (Chora), we have several options:

By Car or Motorbike

Renting a car or motorbike is undoubtedly the option that gives us the most freedom to explore not only Glyfada but also other Greece beaches and the charming inland villages. The journey from Chora to Glyfada is approximately 15-20 kilometers and takes about 25-30 minutes. The road is well-signposted and takes us along the picturesque west coast of the island, passing other popular beaches like Agia Anna and Agios Prokopios, until we reach this haven of peace.

By Bus

There is a regular bus service connecting Naxos Town with the beaches of the west coast, including Glyfada. The frequency of buses is higher during the peak season (July and August). It is an economical and practical option if we do not wish to drive, although it will give us less flexibility to move around once at the beach or explore the surroundings. The bus stop is usually near the main access points to the beach.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Glyfada is famous for its fine, golden sand, which stretches for approximately one kilometer. It is a true pleasure to walk barefoot on it, feeling its softness under our feet. This characteristic makes it ideal for long walks along the shore, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply lying down and enjoying the sun.

The waters of Glyfada are simply spectacular. Their transparency is astonishing, allowing us to see the seabed with total clarity. Furthermore, they are crystal-clear and shallow in the first few meters, making them a safe and perfect place for swimming, even for children. • Parking: For those arriving by car or motorbike, there are free and accessible parking areas near the main access points to the beach, which is very convenient.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: In the more organized areas, you can usually find showers to rinse off the sand and salt after swimming, as well as basic but functional Toilets/WC.
• Lifeguard service: During the high season, it is common to find lifeguard posts in the busier areas of the beach, providing us with greater safety.
• Undeveloped areas: One of the things we value most about Glyfada is that, despite the services, it still retains large undeveloped sections. This allows us to find our own corner of peace, away from the crowds, if we so wish. We just need to bring our own towel and enjoy the freedom.

Best Time to Visit

Choosing the right time to visit Playa de Glyfada can make a big difference in our experience. We recommend:

• Late spring (May-June): This is undoubtedly one of the best times. The weather is mild and pleasant, with perfect temperatures for swimming and sunbathing. The island is not yet crowded with tourists, allowing us to enjoy the tranquility of Glyfada at its finest. Accommodation and flight prices are also usually more attractive.
• Early autumn (September-October): Similar to spring, autumn gives us sunny and warm days, with the sea still at an ideal temperature for swimming. The influx of tourists decreases considerably, creating a serene and relaxed atmosphere. It is ideal for a quiet getaway after the summer bustle.
