How to Get to Playa de Melinda

Getting to Playa de Melinda is part of the adventure and, although it requires a bit of planning, the journey is rewarding. Generally, the best option to access this beach is by car. From Mytilene, the capital of Lesbos, the journey takes approximately one hour and twenty minutes, following roads that wind through stunning landscapes, with panoramic views of the sea and hills covered in olive trees.

If you are staying in Plomari, the trip is much shorter, just about 10-15 minutes by car. The road leading to Melinda is accessible, although the last stretches can be a bit narrow and winding, adding a touch of rustic charm. Once near the beach, you will find free parking areas, often along the road or in small designated spaces near the tavernas. We recommend renting a vehicle to have the freedom to explore not only the beach but also the charming surroundings of Lesbos.

The Sand and Water

The distinctive feature of Playa de Melinda is its seabed, which is a charming mix of polished pebbles and some coarse sand. The pebbles, of various sizes and shades, have been shaped by the sea over time, creating a comfortable and unique surface. Walking barefoot on them is a different experience from fine sand, and many find it surprisingly pleasant. However, for the more sensitive, water shoes can be a good idea, especially if you plan to spend a lot of time on the shore.

But what truly takes our breath away in Melinda is the quality of its water. It is simply spectacular: crystal clear, with a vibrant turquoise hue that invites you to dive in immediately. The clarity is such that you can easily see the seabed, even at several meters deep. The waters are generally calm and temperate, especially during the summer months, making it an ideal place for swimming and floating without worries. The absence of large waves makes it very safe, even for less experienced swimmers. It is, without a doubt, one of the Greece beaches where the purity of the sea is most evident.

During these months, the weather is ideal: sunny and warm, but without the intense heat of midsummer. The sea temperature is already pleasant enough for swimming, and the island is in full bloom, offering green and aromatic landscapes. Furthermore, the influx of tourists is lower, allowing you to enjoy the beach with greater tranquility and find better prices on accommodations and flights. It is perfect for those seeking peace and a more intimate connection with nature.
