How to Get to Playa de Panteli

Getting to Playa de Panteli is part of the adventure and allows us to appreciate the beauty of the island of Leros. The most common way to reach Leros is by ferry from the port of Piraeus in Athens, an overnight journey that offers the chance to watch the sunrise over the Aegean. There are also ferry connections from other Dodecanese islands, such as Rhodes, Patmos, or Kos, making it easy to combine destinations in one trip. The island has a small domestic airport, receiving flights from Athens, which is a faster option for those who prefer to avoid the long sea journey.

Once on Leros, whether arriving at the port of Lakki or Agia Marina, Playa de Panteli is easily accessible. From Agia Marina, the journey is very short, just a few minutes by car, taxi, or even a 15-20 minute walk, as Panteli is right next door, at the foot of the imposing castle. From Lakki, the island's main port, the trip is a bit longer but equally straightforward, with options for taxis or local buses connecting the island's main towns. We recommend renting a scooter or a car for total freedom to explore every corner of Leros at your own pace, including, of course, the charming Playa de Panteli.

The Sand and Water

When stepping onto Playa de Panteli, the first thing we notice is its particular type of ground. It's not a typical fine golden sand beach, but rather presents a charming combination of mixed sand with small pebbles and sea-polished stones. This composition gives it a rustic and natural character that we love, and although it's not the typical sand for building castles, it's perfectly comfortable for lying down and relaxing. In fact, the presence of these small stones contributes to the incredible clarity of the water, by preventing it from becoming easily murky.

The waters of Playa de Panteli are certainly one of its greatest attractions. Of a vibrant turquoise blue color and astonishing transparency, they invite you to dive in without a second thought. They are calm waters, well-protected from the prevailing winds, making them ideal for swimming and enjoying a relaxing dip. The entry into the sea is gentle and shallow for the first few meters, making it a very safe place for children. We love the feeling of freshness and cleanliness these waters convey, perfect for cooling off under the warm Greek sun and observing marine life with just a simple snorkel mask.

Services and Facilities

Despite its tranquil atmosphere and moderate size, Playa de Panteli does not skimp on services and facilities to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay. Along its promenade and just behind the beachfront, we find an excellent offering of restaurants and chiringuitos that delight us with authentic Greek cuisine and, above all, fresh fish of the day. It's a delight to be able to have lunch or dinner just a few meters from the sea, with the sound of the waves in the background and views of the castle lights turning on at dusk.

For those seeking comfort under the sun, many of these establishments offer sunbeds and umbrellas that we can rent for the day, often at very reasonable prices, and sometimes even included with a purchase. It's also common to find public showers or ones at the establishments themselves, allowing us to wash off the salt and sand after a refreshing swim. As for parking, although there is no formal large parking lot, it's possible to find parking on the streets adjacent to the village and along the promenade, though in high season it may require a bit more patience. Furthermore, most restaurants and chiringuitos have bathrooms/WCs for their customers' use, ensuring all basic comforts during our visit to this charming Leros beach.

Best Time to Visit

Choosing the best time to visit Playa de Panteli and Leros in general is key to fully enjoying the experience. For us, the months of late spring (May and early June) and early autumn (September and early October) are, without a doubt, the most recommended. During these periods, the climate is idyllic: temperatures are warm and pleasant, perfect for enjoying the beach and outdoor activities, but without the stifling heat of midsummer. Furthermore, the island is less crowded, allowing us to enjoy the tranquility of Panteli and its services without crowds, easily finding a spot in the tavernas and on the beach.
