How to Get to Playa de Kathisma

Getting to Playa de Kathisma is relatively straightforward, although it requires a bit of attention on the road, especially in the final stretches. We always recommend renting a car to explore Lefkada with complete freedom, and Kathisma is no exception. From the capital, Lefkada Town, the journey is approximately 15 kilometers and takes us about 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic.

By Car

We take the main road heading towards the west of the island, passing through the charming village of Agios Nikitas. The route is well signposted, but the last few kilometers before reaching the beach are a bit winding and descend abruptly. It's a road with tight curves, but the panoramic views that open up at every turn are simply spectacular and prepare us for what's to come. Upon arrival, you'll find several parking options, both paid and some free areas further away. During the high season, especially in July and August, parking can be a challenge, so we advise you to arrive early to secure a good spot.

By Bus

For those who prefer not to drive, there is a regular local bus service (KTEL) that connects Lefkada Town with Playa de Kathisma, stopping at Agios Nikitas. It's a comfortable and economical option, although the schedules may be less flexible. It's perfect if you're looking for a day of relaxation without worrying about the car or parking. However, if your intention is to explore beyond the beach, the car remains the best alternative.

The Sand and Water

What captivates us most about Playa de Kathisma is, without a doubt, its unique combination of white pebbles and turquoise waters of astonishing clarity. Unlike many beaches in Lefkada that boast fine sand, Kathisma surprises us with small, round white pebbles that, under the sun, shine with an almost blinding intensity. These pebbles are not only beautiful to look at, but they also contribute to the incredible transparency of the water, as no sand or sediment is stirred up. It's a different sensation to walk on, and we recommend wearing appropriate beach footwear for greater comfort.

The color of the water is something you have to see to believe. It varies from a crystal-clear blue near the shore to an intense emerald turquoise as we go further in, and finally blends with the deep blue of the Ionian Sea. The transparency is such that we can perfectly see the seabed, even at several meters depth. It's a true paradise for snorkeling lovers, although marine life is not as abundant as in other areas. It's important to consider that the seabed descends quite quickly, so the waters can be deep a short distance from the shore. This, combined with the fact that there can sometimes be waves, requires caution, especially if we are traveling with young children. Still, the purity and beauty of the water are unmatched and constantly invite us to take a refreshing dip.

One of the great advantages of Playa de Kathisma is the excellent service infrastructure it offers, making it a very comfortable option for spending the day. We always value the presence of amenities that make our stay more pleasant, and Kathisma delivers in spades.

Chiringuitos and Restaurants

Along the beach, you'll find a good variety of chiringuitos and restaurants offering everything from quick snacks and refreshing drinks to full meals. It's the perfect place to enjoy a Greek coffee in the morning, an exotic cocktail in the afternoon, or a meal with sea views. The atmosphere in these establishments is lively and music usually plays at a pleasant volume, contributing to the social atmosphere of the beach. We love the option of being able to eat something without having to leave the beach.

Sunbeds and Umbrellas

If you prefer the comfort of not having to bring your own umbrella and towels, most of the beach is equipped with rows of sunbeds and umbrellas that can be rented for a modest price. It's an ideal option to relax and enjoy the sun without worries. However, if you prefer a more free space, there are areas at the end of the beach where you can spread out your towel and enjoy the sun directly on the pebbles.

Other Amenities

Playa de Kathisma has showers to wash off the salt and sand after swimming, as well as clean and accessible bathrooms/WCs. There are also lifeguards watching over the beach during the high season, which gives us additional peace of mind, especially if we are traveling
