How to Get to Playa de Ammoussa

We highly recommend renting a car or a scooter for total freedom of movement. The roads in Lefkada are, as in many Greek islands, winding and with some slopes, but the road to Ammoussa is well signposted and perfectly passable.

From Lefkada Town, the island's capital, the journey will take you approximately 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic and your pace. You will drive through mountainous landscapes dotted with olive trees and small traditional villages, offering you panoramic views that will invite you to stop and take photos. Once you approach the southern area, you will see the signs for Ammoussa. The cove has an informal but sufficient parking area right next to the beach, which makes arrival very easy and allows you to go down directly with your things. Don't worry about parking; even in high season, we have always found a spot. The route, although it may seem a bit remote, is the promise of a destination that rewards every kilometer traveled with its beauty.

The Sand and the Water

When we talk about the 'sand' of Playa de Ammoussa, we must clarify that it is not the fine, golden sand one might imagine on other beaches. Here, the ground is covered with beautiful, polished white pebbles of different sizes, which give it a unique character and unparalleled purity. For those with sensitive feet, we advise you to bring water shoes or aqua socks; they will allow you to walk and enter the sea more comfortably, although we enjoyed the natural feeling of the stones under our feet.

The waters are incredibly calm and warm, especially during the summer months, making them the ideal place for swimming and relaxing. The entrance to the sea is gradual, without sudden drops, making it suitable for everyone. The purity and calm of these waters are perfect for snorkeling; we encourage you to bring your mask and snorkel, because the marine life around the rocks is fascinating and will offer you a spectacle of colors and shapes you won't forget. It is a complete sensory experience, where the sight delights in the color, the skin in the temperature, and the ear in the peace.

Despite being a beach that retains a natural and uncrowded atmosphere, Playa de Ammoussa offers the essential services to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay, without losing its tranquil essence. In the cove, you will find a charming chiringuito or taverna, which becomes the social heart of the beach. Here you can replenish your energy with refreshing drinks, coffees, ice creams, and some simple and delicious dishes, ideal for a light lunch by the sea. We have enjoyed their Greek salads and souvlakis, which taste even better with views of the Ionian.

In addition to the chiringuito, the beach has sunbeds and umbrellas that can be rented for a modest price. This is ideal for those looking to spend the whole day in the sun without worrying about bringing their own equipment. The parking, as we already mentioned, is informal but spacious enough to accommodate visitors without problems. For your comfort, the chiringuito usually also offers showers to rinse off the salt after a good swim. Although you won't find large infrastructures or a wide range of organized water sports, the simplicity of its services is precisely what contributes to its relaxed and authentic atmosphere. Ammoussa does not seek to compete with the more touristy beaches, but to offer a peaceful refuge with what is necessary to fully enjoy the day.
