How to Get to Playa de Massouri

Getting to Playa de Massouri is an adventure in itself, part of the charm of exploring the Greek islands. For most international travelers, the first step is to fly to Kos International Airport (KGS), as Kalymnos does not have an airport with direct international flights. From Kos, the journey continues by ferry or catamaran to Pothia, the capital and main port of Kalymnos. There are regular connections and the trip usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes, already offering the first impressive views of the Aegean. It's a short and picturesque journey that prepares us for the magic that awaits.

Once in Pothia, getting to Massouri is relatively simple. The distance between Pothia and Massouri is approximately 8 kilometers. We recommend several transportation options, depending on your preferences and budget:

• Local bus: There is a regular bus service connecting Pothia with the main coastal towns, including Massouri. It's an economical option and allows you to enjoy the local scenery. The stops are conveniently located near the beach.
• Taxi: Taxis are available at the port of Pothia and offer a quick and direct service to Massouri. It's ideal if you're traveling with luggage or prefer comfort.
• Vehicle rental: For those who want more freedom to explore the island, renting a car, motorbike, or scooter is an excellent option. There are several rental agencies in Pothia and also in Massouri. Driving around Kalymnos is a pleasant experience, with well-maintained roads and spectacular views around every bend. This is the option we usually choose, as it allows us to discover hidden corners and have flexibility in our schedules.
• Private transfers: Some hotels offer transfer services from the port. It's advisable to ask in advance if your accommodation provides this facility.

The Sand and Water

Stepping onto Playa de Massouri, the first thing we notice is the quality of its sand. It's fine, golden sand, incredibly soft underfoot, stretching for about 600 meters. It's the kind of sand that invites you to take off your shoes and stroll quietly along the shore, feeling the warmth of the sun and the sea breeze. For the little ones, it's perfect for building sandcastles and playing without worries. The texture of the sand and its light color contribute to the overall brightness of the beach, making it even more attractive to the eye.

But if the sand is a delight, the water at Playa de Massouri is simply spectacular. The waters are a vibrant turquoise blue, incredibly crystal-clear and, very importantly, generally calm. The absence of strong currents and the shallow depth at the shore make it an ideal place for swimming and splashing, especially for families with children. We enjoyed long swims in these warm waters, which are not only refreshing but also incredibly clean, a testament to the Blue Flag that proudly flies at this Kalymnos beach. The underwater visibility is excellent, allowing you to appreciate marine life with ease, even without snorkeling gear. It's a true pleasure to dive into this aquatic paradise and feel the stress dissolve with each gentle wave that caresses us. The combination of fine sand and crystal-clear water creates a stunning visual contrast, making every moment at Playa de Massouri a complete sensory experience.
