Located at the southern tip of the island, this gem is undoubtedly a destination that has captivated us with its immaculate beauty and atmosphere of pure serenity. Forget the hustle and bustle of other more crowded beaches; Manganari offers us a haven of peace, where time seems to stand still and nature is displayed in all its splendor.

What makes Playa de Manganari truly special is its unique configuration. It is not a single stretch of sand, but a series of five interconnected coves, each with its own charm, extending along a protected bay. Its waters, of a hypnotic turquoise blue, are so transparent that they invite you to dive in and explore the seabed with ease. How to Get to Playa de Manganari

Getting to Playa de Manganari is part of the adventure and, although it may seem a bit remote, the journey is worth it for the panoramic views that Ios offers. We recommend several options to reach this paradise:

By Bus

During the high season, there is a regular bus service connecting Chora (the capital of Ios) with Manganari. It's a comfortable and economical option, ideal if you don't want to worry about parking. Schedules are usually available at the Chora bus station or at main stops. The journey offers spectacular views of the island's mountainous and coastal landscape.

By Rental Car or Motorbike

For those who prefer the freedom to explore at their own pace, renting a car or motorbike is the best alternative. The road from Chora to Manganari is paved and in good condition, although it has some curves and slopes that require caution. The trip takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes, and the reward upon arrival is immense. Plus, it allows us to stop at viewpoints to capture stunning photos of the Aegean.

By Boat

A charming and different way to reach Manganari is through a boat excursion. Many local companies offer daily trips departing from the port of Gialos or Mylopotas, making stops at different beaches, including Manganari. This option allows us to enjoy the coast of Ios from a unique perspective and often includes time for swimming and snorkeling in coves inaccessible by land.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Manganari is synonymous with perfection in terms of its natural composition. The sand here is predominantly fine and of a soft golden color, almost honey-like, which contrasts wonderfully with the deep blue of the sea. It's clean sand, pleasant to the touch, ideal for building sandcastles with children or simply for sinking your feet while walking along the shore.

The waters of Manganari are, without exaggeration, one of its greatest attractions. They are incredibly crystal clear, with visibility that allows us to see the seabed several meters deep. Their color ranges from a bright turquoise in the shallow areas to a deeper blue as we go further out. Furthermore, the bay is very well protected from the winds, which means the waters are usually very calm and warm, making it an exceptional place for swimming, even for the little ones. The entrance to the sea is gradual and gentle, without sudden drops, which adds an extra layer of safety and comfort.

Services and Facilities

Despite its tranquil and natural atmosphere, Playa de Manganari does not lack the essential services that make our stay comfortable and pleasant. It's a well-equipped beach, making it a fantastic option for spending the whole day without worries:

• Sunbeds and umbrellas: Along the main coves of Manganari, you'll find organized areas with umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds available for rent. This is ideal for protecting ourselves from the sun and enjoying a day of relaxation without having to bring our own equipment.
• Beach bars and restaurants: There are several tavernas and small beach bars directly on the sand or very close by. They offer a delicious selection of traditional Greek food, fresh seafood, salads, and refreshing drinks. You can enjoy a lunch with sea views or simply have a coffee or a cocktail.
• Parking: Given its popularity, especially in summer, Manganari has ample parking areas, generally free, which is a great advantage if we decide to arrive by car or motorbike.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: For our comfort, there are freshwater showers to rinse off the salt and sand after swimming, as well as clean and well-maintained toilet facilities, often managed by the tavernas themselves.
• Lifeguards: The presence of lifeguards, especially during the high season, adds an important level of safety, allowing us to enjoy swimming with greater peace of mind. This, along with the Blue Flag, gives us an idea of the quality and safety of this beach.

Best Time to Visit

We believe that the choice of time to visit Playa de Manganari depends a lot on what we are looking for in our experience. However, we can highlight some optimal periods:

• Late spring (May-June): This is, for us, one of the best times. The weather is mild and sunny, the water temperatures are pleasant, and the island has not yet received the massive influx of tourists. We'll enjoy a quieter beach, more affordable accommodation prices, and lush nature.
