How to Get to Playa de Keratokampos

Getting to Playa de Keratokampos is, in itself, part of the adventure and an experience that gradually immerses us in the essence of the most authentic Crete. The route from Heraklion (Crete), the capital, will take us approximately an hour and a half by car, depending on traffic and the stops we decide to make to admire the scenery. We always recommend renting a car to explore this area, as public transport is limited and does not go directly to the beach, which gives us invaluable flexibility.

The journey takes us through picturesque villages and changing landscapes, from fertile plains dotted with olive trees to impressive gorges and steep valleys. The road, although winding in some sections, is in good condition and offers spectacular views of inland Crete. This allows us to enjoy the sun without worries and find comforting shade during the hottest hours. Additionally, several chiringuitos and small tavernas dot the coast, offering us refreshing drinks, coffees, ice creams, and, most importantly, delicious traditional Cretan food. Here we can taste fresh fish of the day, Greek salads, and other local dishes with direct sea views, a culinary experience we always recommend. Parking is another plus; there are designated areas where we can leave our vehicle without major issues, facilitating access to the beach. We also have access to showers to rinse off the salt and sand after swimming, a detail that is always appreciated. During the high season, the presence of lifeguards adds an extra layer of safety, giving us peace of mind while enjoying the sea, especially if we are traveling with children.
