How to Get to Playa de Anissaras

Getting to Playa de Anissaras is relatively straightforward, given its excellent location and Crete's good transport connections. If we fly into Heraklion International Airport (HER), which is the most common, the beach is only about 20-25 kilometers to the east. From there, we have several options to reach our coastal destination.

By Rental Car

For us, the most comfortable option that gives us the most freedom to explore the island is renting a car. The journey from the airport or from the city of Heraklion is direct, following the national road E75 heading east. We'll see signs indicating the turnoff towards Anissaras or Hersonissos. The trip takes approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Furthermore, in the Anissaras area and around the beach, there are usually Parking options, both free on side streets and paid at some establishments.

By Bus

If we prefer not to drive, public transport is a viable alternative. We can take a bus from the Heraklion bus station (near the port) heading to Hersonissos or Malia. Once in Hersonissos, which is very close, we can take a local taxi or, in some cases, a smaller bus that connects to Anissaras. It's important to check the schedules, as they can vary depending on the season.

By Taxi or Private Transfer

For a worry-free arrival, especially if we're traveling with a lot of luggage or in a group, a taxi or a private transfer directly from the airport is an excellent option. There are many companies offering this service, and the price is reasonable, considering the comfort and speed. It's a great way to start our vacation at the Heraklion (Crete) beach stress-free.

The Sand and Water

When we step onto Playa de Anissaras, the first thing we notice is the welcoming nature of its shore. Here, the `sand_type` is predominantly mixed, with areas of soft, golden sand interwoven with small pebbles and cobbles, offering a varied texture under our feet. The general `ground_type` is also mixed, meaning we can find both perfect sandy stretches for laying out a towel and areas with small stones that add a natural, rustic touch to the landscape. We like the diversity, as each section of the beach offers a slightly different experience.

The waters of Anissaras are, without exaggeration, one of its biggest attractions. They are incredibly crystal clear and calm, with hues ranging from a soft turquoise to a deep blue, inviting us to dive in immediately. The entry into the sea is generally gentle and shallow, making it ideal for the little ones and for those who prefer a relaxed swim without worries. The absence of strong currents and the natural protection of the bay contribute to this calm, creating a safe and pleasant environment for swimming and enjoying the Mediterranean. One of the strong points of Playa de Anissaras is the vast range of services and facilities it makes available to us, ensuring our stay is as comfortable and pleasant as possible. This beach is very well organized, which is a blessing for a hassle-free vacation.

In terms of comfort, the beach has numerous areas where we can rent Sunbeds and umbrellas, perfect for relaxing under the Cretan sun or seeking a bit of shade. Most stretches of the beach are covered by this service, often offered by nearby hotels or the chiringuitos themselves. For our personal hygiene, we can easily find Showers to wash off the salt and sand after a refreshing dip, and many of the nearby establishments have clean and accessible Bathrooms/WC.

Safety is a priority in Anissaras, and therefore, during the high season, we have Lifeguard service, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if traveling with children. Furthermore, along the coast, several Chiringuitos and Restaurants are distributed where we can enjoy a cold drink, a snack, or a full meal with sea views.
